Soni is partnering with a leading regional bank on a search for a driven and detail-oriented Senior Accountant with expertise in Investments & General Accounting. This high-visibility role is ideal for a finance professional looking to fast-track their career within the banking industry. You will oversee accounting for the organization’s investment securities, borrowings portfolio, and loan accounting, while also maintaining general ledgers for associated subsidiaries.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting for purchases, sales, calls, and maturities of the organization’s securities portfolio, including MBS, Corporate, Muni, and U.S. Government securities.
- Manage principal & interest payments, interest accruals, and amortization/accretion accounting.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly adjusting entries for investments and loans.
- Board new securities and debt issuances into the portfolio accounting system, ensuring accurate general ledger mapping and regulatory coding.
- Perform daily, monthly, and quarterly reconciliations of bank, general ledger, and custodial accounts.
- Monitor and analyze balance sheet and income statement variances.
- Support preparation of monthly loan reports for ALCO, budgeting, and strategic planning.
- Assist with internal and external audit reviews and SOX control testing.
- Prepare and submit weekly, quarterly, and annual regulatory reports (e.g., Call Reports, FRY-9C, HUD).
- Collaborate with the treasury team and other departments to support investment and borrowing activities.
- Provide backup support for other senior accountants.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA track strongly preferred).
- 4–6+ years of accounting experience, ideally in financial services or banking.
- Solid understanding of loan and investment securities accounting.
- Proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, SUMIF formulas).
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage tight deadlines in a regulated environment.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Preferred:
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Public accounting background (audit) with a pivot into industry
- Experience with Fiserv Prologue Financials and/or Premier
- Exposure to both investment accounting and general ledger accounting
Compensation: $140,000-$150,000
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
