Turfgrass Internship

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Participants will be involved in all facets of golf course maintenance and landscaping gaining hands on experience for the industry. They will learn in a resort and country club member environment which operates four 18 hole golf courses including the PGA Tour course, Copperhead. Duties will include exposure to all aspects of the superintendent position and leading crews on special projects. Primary focus will be assisting the team in achieving their goals involved in the preparation for our annual PGA Tour event.

Essential Job Functions

• Participates in the maintenance of the Copperhead course and performs related work as required.
• Become skilled at all aspects of golf course management including course set up, determining mowing heights proper mowing of tees, greens and fairways, etc.
• Involved in chemical/fertilizer application planning including, proper operation and calibration of chemical/fertilizer equipment.
• Monitor and perform correct watering procedures.
• Gain exposure to irrigation repair and technology.
• Learn proper maintenance and repair of grounds equipment.
• Will lead a team in the completion of a special project.
• Will participate in planning and preparation of Copperhead Golf Course for the annual PGA Tour event.
  
  

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent General Education Degree (GED).
  
  

Requirements

• Enrolled in a college turf/agronomy program
• Requires oral and written communication skills.
  
  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Most work tasks are performed outdoors.
• Position requires walking; must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
• Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach different outlets and other departments of the resort on a timely basis.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch on a regular basis to maintain the golf course
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
• Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
• Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
• Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
• Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
