To provide full administrative support to the Department of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine, to include faculty and senior staff.

Job Duties

  • Facilitate phone calls, patient needs/requests; coordinate with clinical staff to prepare for clinics, arrange and coordinate testing and appointments as directed. 20%
  • Maintain and coordinate schedules and arrange meetings. Communicate with all staff members regarding physician availability and scheduling. 15%
  • Process and facilitate all attorney requests: scheduling depositions, telephone conferences, in-person conferences and IME’s. Also, assist with outside surgery scheduling as needed if surgery stems from IME at another hospital. Ensure timely billing from requesters for Physicians, as well as submit surgery billing sheets to appropriate personnel. 10%
  • Complete all Physician clinic cancellation and leave requests. This includes holding clinics and rescheduling patients when a cancellation is submitted less than 30 days. 10%
  • Communicate and process all reimbursement needs for Physicians that would include travel, membership registration, and specialty meeting registrations. 10%
  • Draft and assist with letter requests from patients, attorneys and insurance companies for each physician. 10%
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor or department leadership. 5%
  • Attend department meetings and MUSC sponsored meetings/events or training sessions. Complete all required training elements as well as updates within time designated. 5%
  • Handle all correspondence to include completing Disability and FMLA forms. Facilitate the completion and distribution of paperwork in a timely matter. Also, coordinate payment when appropriate with clinic personnel and staff. 5%
  • Manage and scan medical record into EPIC for physicians. Also, request operative notes for patients as directed by Physicians’ and upload appropriately into EPIC. 5%
  • Prepare and process faculty appointments, hospital credentialing packages for incoming faculty and/or providers as appropriate. Support incoming and current providers, including attending physicians, mid-level providers, residents and fellows in obtaining appropriate licensure and certification. 5%

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and two years work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience. Some positions require a valid driver's license and good driving record; or correctable vision of 20/40 in both eyes, with or without conventional lenses, and physical qualifications in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Section 391.41; or AAVMA certification. Some positions require eligibility for bonding.
