Summary/Objective
EKG technicians are trained to perform electrocardiograms or EKGs on patients. An EKG is a test that monitors the heart's activity and detects certain heart conditions. The technician will apply electrodes and wire leads to a patient's body and then performs the non-invasive test.
Essential Functions
Performs Diagnostic Procedures according to Policy and Procedure
Assumes responsibility for maintaining current certification in CPR.
Accepts responsibility for reading and referencing new policy and procedures and newsletters.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience: High School Graduate. Six months work experience in a health care environment. EKG or Medical Assistant Certification is required.
Preferred Education and Experience: Electrocardiogram experience preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Current CPR card certification, or, must be completed within 90 days of employment

Essential Functions
Performs Diagnostic Procedures according to Policy and Procedure
- Ensures all EKG and ABI equipment is set up & operates properly.
- Verifies MD order
- Verifies patient ID x2
- Seeks personal dialogue with MD for unusual situations or special needs
- Performs EKG or ABI diagnostic measurements
- Exam table paper is disposed after patient use
- Bed is cleaned using proper cleansing material utilized per risk management
- new exam table paper is reapplied
- Linen is change when soiled and at end of day
- Exhibits knowledge of EMR, IDX, for performance & ordering of exams
- Tasks EKG to appropriate Credentialed physician
- Produces printout of ABI
- Copies, stores copy, and distributes ABI copy to ordering MD
- Exhibits proper telephone etiquette
- Adheres to Hand Hygiene protocol
- Exercises proper usage of Biohazard or hazardous waste containers
- Reports any observed safety issues or potential hazards to supervisor.
- Always transports oxygen tanks utilizing appropriate carrier device
