SPED PARAPROFESSIONAL (Whitney Hall School)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Special Education Paraprofessional will be assigned for the purpose of providing direct educational tutoring services under the direction of the teacher and/or administrator. The Special Education Paraprofessional will be accountable to the Principal. This employee is expected to perform other assigned duties.

Accountable And Responsible For The Following Results

  • Assist the teacher in the implementation of the educational program.
  • Work with groups of children on education tasks assigned by the teacher who addresses targeted goals.
  • Assists and follows directives of the teacher with classroom routines/instructional implementation.
  • Act as a substitute for teachers when they are involved in scheduled meeting (i.e., PPT’s, case conferences, etc.) or if out ill or on an extended leave.
  • Attending conferences, groups, meetings, and school in-services when assigned by school administration or designees.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and awareness regarding cultural diversity as it relates to the client population.
  • May be assigned to work 1 to 1 with students.
  • Collects and inputs daily behavioral data.
  • Attends all classes with students and assists in implementation of specials (i.e., Gym, PE)
  • Attends lunch and monitors students during lunch waves.
  • Maintains Carelogic and all other digital account login information.
  • Assists with daily arrival and dismissal procedures.
  • May be assigned to work in residential cottage during school hours.
  • Successfully complete CCG (Crisis Consulting Group) training and perform physical restraints with clients when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains all required agency mandatory trainings.
  • Maintains appropriate personal boundaries with young people and families served at The Children's Center of Hamden. Adheres to The Children’s Center of Hamden’s Boundary Code of Ethics.

Minimum Qualifications

BA/BS in Human Services required. Two years of experience in the field of human services is preferred. Knowledge of direct care and of teaching methods. Ability to understand challenges of individuals served, identify needs, and to resolve conflicts as they arise. Ability to maintain discipline and order. Interest in human service and mature judgment in dealing with their behavior problems.

CERTIFICATIONS

A Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record is required.
