Join Casey’s in shaping a better future for our communities, guests, and team members as an Associate Category Manager on our Merchandising team! In this role, you'll own P&L responsibility for assigned categories and owns project management of key projects within the respective category group. The Associate Category Manager also supports Category Management as needed. This role is the primary feeder for future Category Managers.

Category size: &GM sized at no greater than $50M in Revenue and $25M in Gross Profit annually.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Develop and execute strategy for assigned categories based on competitive and consumer trends and market needs.
  • Develop annual category plans and category financial projections and execute to meet goals.
  • Owns and manages critical relationships with suppliers of strategic importance to category plans.
  • Negotiates supplier contracts, obtains appropriate Legal review and approval.
  • Manages the business against operating plans and budgets. May include leading the day-to-day management, including forecasting, shipment and consumption analysis, margin, and tracking. Provides on-going updates on the category to leadership, including monthly scorecards and daily/weekly reporting as the business demands.
  • Owns and optimizes the cost of goods, terms, support funds, and other periodic issues through leveraging of Casey’s existing and future scale.
  • Develops promotional playbooks and and/or monthly promotional sales plan for assigned categories.
  • Assists Category Managers with vendor and item set up and promotional accounting. Prepares information to create vendor billbacks related to promotional activities, as necessary.
  • Effectively partners with other teams that play a key part in driving and executing on strategy.
  • Primary project lead or subject matter expert for major cross functional projects within the category team.
  • May develop and create insightful project briefs for assigned categories based on competitive and consumer trends and market needs.
  • Upon alignment, executes utilizing a stage-gate model to drive organizational efficiencies, time, and money effectively.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Compensation

Starting pay range:‏‏‎ ‎$74,200‏‏‎ ‎-‏‏‎ ‎$93,000.‏‏‎ ‎ Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. This position is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on company performance. Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • At least three years of work-related experience is required.
  • Knowledge of convenience and/or foodservice store industry.
  • Solid understanding of basic marketing and category management principles, merchandising methods, and consumer psychology.
  • Strategic and operational planning skills and independent decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage a P&L, with the ability to analyze results, evaluate opportunities to course-correct and enact change.
  • Ability to provide guidance to stores and team members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business partners and field operations, store support center team members, both verbally and with business writing skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional work relationships and professional communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn category management fundamentals and provide strong support to team members.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
