Job Description
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under supervision of the Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, the K-12 STEM
Specialist provides leadership for implementing and facilitating K-12 STEM (science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics) programs, instruction, and professional learning.
The specialist ensures resources are available for use by administrators, teachers and students . In addition, the position provides the necessary professional learning and coaching
requirements to meet the STEM goals of Portsmouth Public Schools (PPS).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work
performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work
is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)

Uses appropriate resources and technology to promote the implementation of STEM
instruction throughout science, math, and CTE classrooms.
Coordinates the alignment of the division?s STEM strategies and resources with the
division?s content curriculum.
Collaborates with content coordinators and the instructional technology coordinator to
ensure sustainability of STEM education in PPS.
Assists schools with the planning of STEM activities and family engagement related to
STEM.
Works with the CTE coordinator to expand STEM pathways through high school.
Works to expand and implement extracurricular STEM programs at all levels, including
VEX Robotics, First Robotics, and Chrome Clubs.
Seeks out, applies for and monitors implementation progress of STEM-related grants.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Secondary Curriculum
and Instruction.

Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.
