This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive HR support to the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, accommodations and leave administration, benefits support, workers’ compensation, and unemployment claims. This role ensures policies and procedures are implemented consistently, maintains compliance with all applicable employment laws, and serves as a resource to staff and management in creating a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment.

Operations
- Administer full-cycle recruitment processes, including job postings, applicant screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Maintain and update employee records in the HRIS to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Provide guidance to managers and employees on policies, procedures, and employee relations matters.
- Administer accommodations and leave processes, including FMLA, ADA, and state-mandated leave, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
- Manage workers’ compensation claims, including reporting, documentation, and coordination with insurance providers.
- Oversee unemployment benefits processes, including claims management and communication with state agencies.
- Assist with benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, terminations, and employee questions.
- Support performance management processes, including goal setting, evaluations, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as YMCA policies.
- Collaborate with management to identify training needs and coordinate staff development opportunities.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Generate HR reports and metrics to support decision-making and compliance reporting.
- Assist with special projects, policy updates, and HR communications as assigned.
- Incorporate “Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility” into all aspects of the position, to ensure YMCA values are promoted and adhered to.
- Maintain a consistent professional image through dress, actions, and relationships with others. Speak enthusiastically on behalf of the YMCA at given opportunities.
I will support the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region’s commitment to child abuse prevention by
- Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
- Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
- Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
- Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of HR generalist experience; nonprofit or multi-site experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, regulations, HR best practices, and leave/accommodation requirements (FMLA, ADA, and state leave laws).
- Experience managing workers’ compensation and unemployment claims, including reporting, documentation, and coordination with external agencies.
- Proficiency in HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with payroll/benefits systems a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion.
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent HR certification preferred.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time while working at a desk or computer.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with employees and external partners.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of files, documents, or office supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Visual acuity to review and analyze data on computer screens and printed materials.
- Ability to move within the office to access files, equipment, and attend meetings.
- Occasional standing, bending, or reaching as needed to complete tasks.
- Ability to work in a standard office environment with moderate noise levels.
