Overview:

The Director of Infrastructure & Operations leads the strategy, performance, and delivery of Alterman’s core IT infrastructure and operational platforms. This role ensures the security, scalability, and efficiency of technical operations—including network infrastructure, cloud environments, enterprise systems, field support, and the IT Service Desk. This role collaborates closely with peers in enterprise applications, cybersecurity, and project management to drive business growth and continuous improvement.

Essential Functions

• Strategic Leadership:
• Provides strategic direction for IT operations and infrastructure to support company goals.
• Leads, mentors, and develops the Infrastructure, Service Desk, and Cloud/Systems teams.
• Partners with the CIO and other IT leaders to align infrastructure initiatives with the enterprise IT strategy.
• Operational Excellence:
• Oversees and optimizes daily IT operations across offices, job sites, and cloud platforms.
• Ensures a reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure including servers, storage, networking, and cloud environments.
• Directs the IT Service Desk function, ensuring timely support, efficient ticket resolution, and positive user experiences.
• Establishes, tracks, and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs).
• Project & Systems Delivery:
• Collaborates on cross-functional IT initiatives including ERP, HRIS, collaboration tools, and jobsite technology.
• Partners with the IT project managers to ensure infrastructure projects are delivered on time and aligned with business priorities.
• Drives standardization, automation, and modernization of IT operations.
• Risk Management & Security:
• Ensures systems meet company security standards in coordination with the Information Security team.
• Supports disaster recovery, business continuity planning, and backup systems.
• Manages infrastructure-related vendor relationships, contracts, and budgets.
  
  

Education And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years leading infrastructure or operations teams.
• Experience in construction, engineering, or field service industries preferred.
  
  

Skills/Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences and executive stakeholders.
• Demonstrated success leading IT support and service desk operations.
• Proven leadership in developing organizational strategy, managing teams, and driving cross-functional IT initiatives.
• Able to build strong cross-functional relationships with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Able to manage vendor relationships, evaluate contracts, and ensure delivery of SLAs and negotiated outcomes.
• Strong knowledge of enterprise applications, platforms and networks, cloud platforms (Azure / AWS), virtualization and endpoint management.
• Strong knowledge of cloud computing, virtualization, cybersecurity, networking, and storage technologies.
• Strong financial acumen with experience managing IT infrastructure and operations budgets, vendor contracts, and technology investments.
• Proficient in developing and managing multimillion-dollar infrastructure budgets, including forecasting, cost control, and ROI analysis.
