Pouching Quality Assurance Technician

Job Description

Reports To: QA Supervisor

Department: Quality Assurance

Location: Springfield, Mo

Status: Exempt Non-Exempt

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the quality assurance (QA) process performed in the pouching and packaging areas in the production area. The Pouching Quality Technician will verify different aspects of the pouching and packaging process. Verified steps include but are not limited to area, ingredient, inspection, cell, in-process testing/checks, and finished product release.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities (not Restrictive)

  • Pouching and packaging area release by verifying starting components, equipment cleanliness, and room cleanliness.
  • Batch Production Record (BPR) review for completeness prior to starting pouching and packaging.
  • In-process checks/tests of pouches, boxes, and cartons made on the pouching line.
  • Final inspection of product, which includes (but is not limited to): BPR review for completeness, label check, weight check, and visual inspection of final product.
  • Identify and control of non‐conforming materials.
  • Serve as backup to Production Quality Assurance Technicians when needed.
    • In-process product inspection of nutrient blends.
    • QA inspection of various incoming product up receipt.
    • Assist with document control, review of quality documents such as BPR's, corrective action reports, HACCP reports, and quality surveys.
  • Assist in quality control or technical service functions as needed.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Performs in-process checks/testing of pouching line
  • Ensure batch records are reviewed on a regular basis and all pouching line requirements have been met.
  • Facilitate release of equipment, cells and product in a timely manner.
  • Follows safety guidelines.

Qualification & Experience R equirements

Education, Training

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) is required
  • College and/or trade school education is preferred

Experience Required

  • Two year in quality assurance in a food, supplement or pharmaceutical company is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Working knowledge of good manufacturing practices and quality assurance fundamentals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), to include speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to work from written instructions (SOPs, emails, etc) and verbal instructions.
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Works with minimal supervision and remain productive at all times.
  • Must be results focused and oriented toward accomplishment of team.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include daily overtime and some weekends, when needed

Language, Computer & Numeracy

  • Fluent in written and spoken English required
  • Computer skills and proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience in SAP a plus

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • Involves moderate physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature.
  • Should be able to identify and distinguish colors, see clearly at 20 inches or closer and 20 feet or more, observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, judge distances and spatial relationships, and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.
  • Must be able to pass respiratory exam and fit test.
  • Ability to work while wearing Personal Protective Equipment including respirator (which requires minimal to no facial hair).

Typical environmental conditions

  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels (i.e. office equipment, light traffic).
  • May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels (i.e. production equipment, forklifts, heavy traffic).
  • May be exposed to dust, humidity, intense heat and cold, outdoor weather conditions, and fumes and toxic chemicals.
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock.
