Position Overview

The position is responsible for the distribution of our fresh produce from Chicago DC and ensuring product are shipped correctly based on customer parameters. The incumbent collaborates with sales, transportation, brokers, customers, and service providers to ensure an efficient and effective flow of operational information. this position is also responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the Material Handlers. This person must be able to work weekends as needed.

This is a supervisory, exempt position. The Primary duty of this role is management of the organization or of a recognized unit or subdivision thereof. This role includes supervision of at least two other full-time employees or the equivalent thereof. In addition to having the authority to hire or fire other employees and/or to make suggestions and recommendations regarding the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, etc. of other employees.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Material Handlers positions, following up with their performance and execution. Organizing schedules, coordinating PTO requests with DC Management.
  • Manage the distribution of fresh produce within the region.
  • Interfaces with Sales, Operations, Quality, Compliance and the Transportation department to match the fruit for the right customer parameters.
  • Assist in servicing and retaining existing accounts.
  • Daily warehouse inspection walks to audit sanitation, safety, and maintenance of the warehouse facility and notify maintenance and/ or crew for cleaning and repair.
  • Assist with inventory control to ensure physical inventory is accurate against system inventory in MCS.
  • Manage space allocation for warehouse and/or office.
  • Coordinate all products arriving at the Chicago DC including inspecting products of inbound and outbound orders, as well as conditions of trailers.
  • Notify appropriate parties for any possible claims pertaining to temperatures, condition and mishandling of product of inbound arrivals.
  • Responsible for effective communication and planning required with carriers.
  • Responsible for implementing procedures and making sure all DC personnel are forklift trained and certificated.
  • Orchestrate responsibilities throughout daily shifts when needed for efficient operations.
  • Responsible for Food Safety and Safety regulations and documentation within the team.
  • Responsible for adhering to all OSHA, Food Safety and quality policies.
  • Assist with reporting daily orders to upper management.
  • Creating and shipping orders within our Chiquita Operating System.
  • Responsible for assisting the DC's Administrators.

Job Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of operations experience, quality or ripening background preferred
  • Forklift experience preferred
  • High school Graduate or GED equivalency
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to multi-task efficiently
  • Attention to details and strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to analyze and establish processes for improved department performance
  • Possess leadership skills and able to engage a workforce

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled warehouse environment, including cold storage areas
  • Ability to lift up to 50 Lbs. banana boxes up to 80" off the ground 80-140 times per day
  • Incumbent may stand for long periods of time
  • Incumbent may use calculators, frequent use of basic math is mandatory
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, lifting, pulling, pushing and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
