Education Specialist

The Education Specialist must be able to teach classes based on professional expertise in creative media, media communications, and/or animation. The Education Specialist must be able to learn new equipment or skills and bring their knowledge to the classroom for students of all skill levels. They are also expected to assist the Education Manager in the designing, planning, and implementing of education programs, curriculum, policies, and procedures for staff and clients. The Education Specialist plays a vital role in helping volunteers as well as to help clients understand the value of PEG Access and equip them with the technical and aesthetic skills that will enable them to produce high-quality, non-commercial programs successfully.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, those listed below, and other inherent responsibilities associated with such a position.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Teach beginning and advanced level classes to people of diverse backgrounds, including youth of all ages, in a manner that accommodates different learning styles using curriculum that meets the training, educational, and learning needs of the company, as well as its clients and staff.
- Cultivate knowledge of concept-to-completion video production for single and multi-camera, remote, and studio formats, live and post, inclusive of post-production editing.
- Technical aptitude to operate current audio/visual, computing, or television equipment.
- Assist with scheduling resources: classes, rooms, and equipment collaboratively with other departments and Community Media Centers to effectively serve participant, and conduct classes as needed at both onsite and offsite locations to facilitate requests from outside organizations.
- Foster an environment of mentorship and volunteerism that encourages a professional, supportive, and positive team approach with staff and clients.
- Provide timely oral and written reports reflecting current training data, trends, and other information as may be required to assess education efforts.
- Assist Training Manager with preparing timely reports reflecting current training data, trends, and other helpful information assessing education efforts.
- Monitor and recommend improvements to educational curriculum to ensure effectiveness of instruction and materials.
- Perform multiple projects, work with urgent and competing demands, and manage confidential and sensitive information related to company business.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree in creative media, communications, or related field required; or 3-years consecutive work experience in creative media, communications, or related field in lieu of degree.
- Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring capacity is preferred.
- Experience developing and implementing curriculum is desirable.
- A commitment to and involvement with non-profit, community, or government organizations is desirable.
- Clean criminal record: The position involves working with and training minors.
- Experience with customer service and the ability to understand the dynamics involved in achieving excellence as it relates to customer service and satisfaction.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, active listening, and written communication skills.
- Strong mediation and conflict resolution skills utilized through supportive interventions with clients and employees.
- Ability to problem-solve quickly, with creativity and flexibility.
- Ability to foster professional learning and growth in a supervisory capacity.
- Knowledge of and experience in production equipment, maintenance, and minor repairs and troubleshooting requirements.
- Analytical skills to identify, assess, and determine technical equipment project and initiative needs.
- Ability to work with urgent and competing demands and effectively manage stress (of self and others).
- Ability to work professionally, calmly, and effectively.
