Description
The Registrar is responsible for gathering all the necessary information for registering patients and creating a patient encounter on the computer. This includes updating existing information, verifying the correctness of the details, collecting co-pays and deductibles, explaining forms, obtaining proper signatures, and setting up payment arrangements for balances. In addition, the Registrar is responsible for collecting any amounts due, issuing appropriate receipts, and depositing them correctly.
Requirements
Education: High school education (or equivalent). Two (2) years of college preferred.
Experience: At least two years’ work experience in a hospital or physician office setting (preferably as a registrar or insurance verification coordinator) is preferred, or at least two years in a customer service field where face-to-face contact with customers was made.
Licenses/Certificates: None
Special Skills: Excellent communication skills, including oral, written, and spoken, are required, as well as the ability to identify and respond to requests or issues quickly. Excellent typing skills are also needed.

In addition, the Registrar is responsible for collecting any amounts due, issuing appropriate receipts, and depositing them correctly.
- Responsible for notifying/locating patients to be registered by using a pager system.
- Verifies all patient demographics, including insurance information, and ensures HIPAA guidelines are followed.
- Documents accurate information into the computer system, including comments about the case or patient.
- Obtains written consent from all patients.
- Responsible for correcting errors or omissions, including patient’s insurance information.
- Issues receipt for payments received and deposit funds are locked securely.
- Prepares patients' charts in advance as directed to ensure that all documents are correctly and promptly obtained.
- Responsible for retrieval of daily surgery charts from the 3rd floor daily.
- Scans all documents into the system daily as directed.
- Help verify insurance and contact patients about copayments and deductibles.
- Serves as a backup for any other position in the area as needed or directed.
- Consistently exhibits a positive and professional attitude.
- Ensures timeliness and accuracy of all work before leaving each day.
- Performs all other duties as the Registration Coordinator or Revenue Cycle Director assigns.
