Brief Description

High-impact leadership role, working closely with R&D leaders and team members across an R&D domain on driving strategic business and operational initiatives. This role is responsible for flawless operation of activities across Global Medical and Scientific Affairs (GMSA) Therapeutic Areas (TA) providing intellectual and facilitative leadership while driving collaboration and alignment across the TAs.

Essential Functions

  • Working in matrix team with leaders from the Therapeutic Areas in GMSA to maintain oversight of in-line and pipeline activities by partnering with study leads to operationalize for successful execution of ongoing/planned studies including management of annual tactical plans
  • Perform project management lead (PML) duties on a long term or temporary cover basis - and in this role be accountable for matrix leadership of cross-functional operational planning & execution on assigned pipeline or product related projects – driving accountability and issue resolution on the Core Teams and Functional Matrix Teams.
  • Partner with study leads to build tactical road maps for critical studies and facilitate delivery of cross functional tactics
  • Facilitate decision making forums and ensure follow through on key deliverables and milestones
  • Support TA in enterprise-wide initiatives and governance bodies. Lead and project manage continuous improvement or operational excellence projects of varying sizes across the TA domain in alignment with standards and values to achieve R&D goals and objectives. Manage complex business projects, on-time, and on-budget.
  • Develop and implement the strategy for assigned TAs or departmental activities / programs, for example business risk management, resource planning, lessons learnt, change management, communications, etc.
  • Support TA domain integration of molecule and/or company after acquisition.
  • Participate in the management and updates of TA domain performance metrics. Ensures metrics are aligned with specific R&D business areas or programs to ensure actionable planning and execution.
  • Measure performance of TAs through defined performance metrics.
  • Design, implement and manage the development of global performance metrics and an integrated TAs Metrics Dashboard. Ensures metrics align with specific TAs, projects, or programs to ensure actionable planning and execution.
  • Provide support to the monitoring and evaluation of potential business risks, applying the Jazz risk model.
  • Frame complex and ambiguous problems or issues, synthesize findings, define risk recommendation, make logically supported recommendations, and co-facilitate/facilitate decision-making sessions as appropriate.
  • Support change management and communications during major organizational changes within R&D.
  • Collaborate with R&D teams to monitor and identify internal and external environment to implement changes quickly to support the growing organization and pipeline.

TA Domain Focus As Assigned

  • As a member of the assigned GMSA TA, work closely with the senior leader and the leadership team to set strategic direction for the domain area and ensure alignment with corporate, matrix team and functional objectives.
  • Lead and/or manage special projects and high-profile initiatives such as departmental dashboard with Insights.
  • Manage GMSA TA resourcing to support projects, activities, and infrastructure.
  • Direct or conduct recruitment, hiring, onboarding of new employees, ongoing compliance of training, project time reporting.
  • Manage GMSA TA Budget including travel, software, and contingent workers.
  • Oversee GMSA TA records management as the records coordinator.
  • Support GMSA TA administrative assistant with procurement activities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Highly self-motivated and comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial and decentralized environment
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in a business or operational disciplined company
  • 8 years demonstrated successful experience in leading teams and managing budgets.
  • Excellent understanding of Pharmaceutical / BioTech Research & Development including deep understanding of regulatory, compliance guidelines and complexities concerning pipeline development
  • Research & Development technical or operational experience is required in Medical Affairs.
  • Strong leadership, people management, project management, and process improvement abilities.
  • GxP knowledge is required.
  • Highly resilient and achievement-oriented, with the ability to succeed in an environment that demands fast but well-founded decision-making on a vast number of multidisciplinary issues.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • A demonstrated track record of driving performance and leadership ability within a team environment
  • Proficient ability to drive change in a matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, build and motivate a team of high-functioning individuals.
  • Ability and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.

Required/Preferred Education And Licenses

  • Master’s degree in management, leadership or scientific discipline required.
  • Lean Sigma certification, or equivalent certification, preferred.
  • Project Management certification, preferred.

Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices and we strive to provide employees with total compensation packages that are market competitive. For this role, the full and complete base pay range is: $153,600.00 - $230,400.00

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, and other pertinent factors. The goal is to ensure fair and competitive compensation aligned with the candidate's expertise and contributions, within the established pay framework and our Total Compensation philosophy. Internal equity considerations will also influence individual base pay decisions. This range will be reviewed on a regular basis.

At Jazz, your base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate may also be eligible for a discretionary annual cash bonus or incentive compensation (depending on the role), in accordance with the terms of the Company's Global Cash Bonus Plan or Incentive Compensation Plan, as well as discretionary equity grants in accordance with Jazz's Long Term Equity Incentive Plan.
