About the COO

The COO will oversee the business and operational aspects of the church in alignment with biblical principles and the mission of the Southern Baptist Church. This role supports ministry by managing finances, facilities, human resources, and administrative functions, ensuring that the church operates with integrity, efficiency, and transparency.


The COO’s responsibilities include:

Financial Management

  • Develop and oversee the church budget in collaboration with pastoral and finance teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of income, expenses, tithes, offerings, and payroll.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax laws and financial regulations.
  • Coordinate annual audits or financial reviews.

Human Resources & Staff Administration

  • Maintain HR records and oversee payroll administration.
  • Manage employee benefits and insurance policies.
  • Facilitate recruitment, onboarding, and exit processes for staff.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and church policies.
  • Provide administrative support to pastoral staff and ministry leaders as needed.

Facility & Operations Management

  • Oversee maintenance and scheduling of church buildings and grounds.
  • Supervise custodial and maintenance staff or vendors.
  • Manage contracts for utilities, insurance, security, and service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, fire, and health regulations.

Administrative Leadership

  • Develop and implement church policies and procedures.
  • Maintain official church records and documents.
  • Support stewardship and fundraising efforts in coordination with ministry leadership.
  • Work closely with ministry teams to ensure alignment with administrative support.

Church Governance & Communication

  • Serve as a liaison to the church finance committee, personnel committee, and serve on the Executive Council.
  • Attend and report at business meetings and Deacon meetings.
  • Assist with strategic planning and vision implementation alongside church leadership.



What you bring

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the COO:

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience); preference given to candidates with nonprofit/church administration background.
  • Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of relevant administrative and financial management experience, preferably in a church or nonprofit setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Shelby Financials, Touch Point, Excel or Church Management Software).
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.
  • High level of discretion, integrity, and confidentiality.

Personal Characteristics and Qualifications

  • Faith & Alignment: A committed follower of Jesus Christ with agreement to the Southern Baptist faith and message. Must be a member or willing to become a member of First Baptist Church of Grapevine.
