We are seeking a hands-on Director of Data Platform to lead our Data team, reporting directly to the CTO, and shape the future of our data strategy for both external and internal stakeholders.
General Overview
As a Senior Product Manager, Data Platform, you will own the end-to-end lifecycle of Metrc’s data-driven products, including our data lake (Snowflake, Databricks, Domo, Tableau). Reporting to the VP of Product and collaborating closely with the Director of Data Platform, you will drive the vision, strategy, and execution of data products that deliver exceptional value in a highly regulated environment. This role requires a proven leader with deep experience in data platforms, a track record of delivering complex software products, and the ability to hit the ground running in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.

Product Vision and Strategy
- Define and champion a clear product vision and roadmap for the Data Platform, aligning with Metrc’s business objectives, regulatory requirements, and customer needs.
- Partner with the Director of Data Platform and CTO to ensure data products support both external customers and internal teams (Sales, Customer Success, Senior Leadership).
- Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and customer feedback to identify opportunities and validate data product ideas in the cannabis industry.
- Translate business needs into detailed product requirements, specifications, and user stories, working closely with data engineers, BI specialists, and technical product managers.
- Lead cross-functional teams (Data, Engineering, Design, Marketing) to deliver high-quality data products, including dashboards, reports, and analytics solutions, on time and within budget.
- Oversee the integration of data lake technologies (Snowflake, Databricks, Domo, Tableau) and potentially transactional databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) to ensure seamless data flows and usability.
- Prioritize and manage the product backlog, balancing regulatory compliance, customer demands, and internal stakeholder needs with long-term platform scalability.
- Serve as the voice of the customer, ensuring data products address pain points for external users (state regulators, cannabis businesses) and internal teams.
- Communicate product vision, strategy, and progress to stakeholders, including senior leadership, customers, and development teams, to align expectations and drive adoption.
- Collaborate with Customer Success Managers and Customer Support to develop go-to-market strategies and support customer onboarding for data products.
- Define and monitor key product success metrics (e.g., adoption, retention, customer NPS, data query performance) to drive continuous improvement.
- Leverage analytics and KPIs to optimize data product performance and user satisfaction, ensuring compliance with cannabis industry regulations.
- Stay current with industry trends, data technologies, and regulatory changes to enhance the Data Platform’s capabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 6+ years of experience as a Product Manager, with at least 3 years focused on data platforms, analytics, or BI solutions in a software development environment.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex data products (e.g., data lakes, BI tools, or analytics platforms) from concept to launch in a SaaS or regulated industry.
- Deep understanding of data technologies, including data lakes (Snowflake, Databricks) and BI tools (Tableau, Domo, or similar), with familiarity in SQL and data modeling.
- Strong experience with Agile methodologies (Kanban, Scrum) and managing cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership abilities to influence stakeholders and drive alignment.
- Proficiency in product management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, or similar).
- Experience in the cannabis industry or other highly regulated sectors (e.g., healthcare, finance), with knowledge of compliance and data governance.
- Familiarity with real-time transactional databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and their integration with analytical platforms.
- Understanding of UI/UX design principles and user-centered design for data visualization and reporting tools.
- Certifications such as Certified Product Manager (CPM), Pragmatic Institute Certification, or equivalent.
- This position will require some travel, approximately 15% of work time.
