Job Summary:
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for directing all day-to-day operations of the HR department at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
STRATEGIC HR LEADERSHIP:
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
- Advise and collaborate with senior management on organizational development and change management initiatives.
- Oversee the recruitment process to attract, select, and retain top talent.
- Implement and manage talent acquisition strategies to meet the company’s staffing needs.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment through effective employee relations programs.
- Manage employee engagement initiatives to improve morale and productivity.
- Address employee concerns and grievances, ensuring prompt and effective resolution.
- Oversee the performance management process, ensuring clear goals, feedback, and development plans are in place.
- Work with managers to address performance issues and implement improvement plans.
- Promote a culture of continuous feedback and professional development.
- Develop and manage competitive compensation and benefits programs to attract and retain talent.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations related to compensation and benefits.
- Review and update compensation structures based on market trends and organizational needs.
- Oversee all aspects of payroll processing, onboarding and offboarding.
- Has overall responsibility for departmental budget (development, maintenance, management). Documents, tracks, monitors, and analyzes departmental finances.
- Ensure the company’s HR policies and practices comply with all federal, state, and local labor laws.
- Manage risk related to employment practices and employee relations.
- Maintain and update the employee handbook and other HR-related documentation.
- Oversee the development and implementation of training and development programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.
- Identify training needs across the organization and develop appropriate learning solutions.
- Support leadership development initiatives and succession planning.
- Develop and track key HR metrics to measure the effectiveness of HR programs and initiatives.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management on HR-related matters.
- Utilize HR analytics to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead initiatives to shape and strengthen the company culture, ensuring alignment with core values and business goals.
- Implement organizational development strategies to improve effectiveness and productivity.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the organization.
- Lead, develop/create various opportunities to contribute to the community through outreach programs
- A minimum education level of: BA/BS Degree (4-year) in Human Resources or related area preferred
- A minimum of 8-10 years of related work experience
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
- Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is a plus.
- Experience with HR software and tools, as well as HR analytics.
- In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to follow departmental and company procedures accurately and efficiently.
- Maintains a professional, positive and friendly demeanor/attitude.
- Excellent customer service, listening and communication skills
- Experience with defusing and resolving situations, demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly specific instructions and explanations.
- Must be able to remain in an extended stationary position for entire shift (8-10 hours).
- Must be able to work varied shifts, weekdays, weekends, holidays and additional hours as venue schedule requires.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word; Excel); and ability to learn all required business systems
- Strong leadership skills.
- Must have the ability to work harmoniously in a team setting exhibiting the “Aloha Spirit” to fellow workers, guests, clients and the community so as to provide exceptional customer service while demonstrating behaviors that reflect the Hawai‘i Convention Center’s vision, mission statement and values.
