The Peer Support Specialist will assist in implementing consistent, high-quality programs at assigned work sites in alignment with the agency’s mission. Guided by principles of human dignity, respect, self-determination, cultural sensitivity, and community integration, the Peer Support Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals living with serious mental illness, substance use, or co-occurring disorders.

Guided by principles of human dignity, respect, self-determination, cultural sensitivity, and community integration, the Peer Support Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals living with serious mental illness, substance use, or co-occurring disorders.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Utilize personal recovery experience to coach, mentor, and inspire program participants in enhancing their quality of life.
- Advocate for and coordinate individualized services, ensuring integration of recovery-oriented, person-centered, and culturally sensitive practices.
- Assist participants in accessing community, vocational, educational, and training resources.
- Provide support with daily living skills, health and wellness activities, and self-directed recovery goals.
- Document services accurately, including encounter notes, progress notes, and administrative records (e.g., payroll, billing, mileage reports).
- Act as a liaison for individuals and families, attending clinical staffing as needed.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, licensing standards, and agency procedures.
- Uphold professional boundaries and ethical standards, including confidentiality.
- Ensure a safe environment and promptly address any health or safety concerns.
- Participate in training, clinical supervision, and agency committees as assigned.
- At least 21 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED.
- Personal lived recovery experience (required per AHCCCS peer support certification standards).
- Completion of Peer Support Training or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Must pass pre-employment and ongoing drug screenings.
- Valid Arizona driver’s license, reliable transportation, clean driving record, and proof of insurance/registration.
- Willingness and ability to travel in the community (approx. 80% field-based, 20% office-based).
- Physical capacity to stoop, stand, bend, twist, lift up to 50 lbs, and walk/stand for extended periods (70–90% of time).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (as applicable).
- Commitment to working in a culturally diverse environment.
- Prior experience working in behavioral health, recovery, or human services.
- Knowledge of community-based resources and support systems.
- Strong communication, advocacy, and organizational skills.
