The Purchasing Agent is engaged in purchasing materials, equipment, and supplies to maintain inventory par levels and fill customer orders. They will regularly monitor ordering patterns and inventory levels to ensure we have the right amount of inventory. The Purchasing Agent is responsible for maintaining relationships and being the primary point of contact for assigned vendors.
A typical day might include assisting our Customer Care Department with purchase order and item questions, corresponding with vendors, reviewing vendor contracts, and attending new product meetings – there is no end to the variety of assignments.
What will you do?
- Manage relationships and correspondence with assigned vendors.
- Correspond with assigned vendors regarding questions, inquiries, and requests.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders.
- Confirm and update status on purchase orders, following order from placing to receipt.
- Work with vendors and/or accounting to resolve any order discrepancies, i.e. pricing, products, etc.
- Verify expiration date sensitive items when needed on assigned vendors.
- Check on and update status for past due orders.
- Manage backordered items from assigned vendors and monitoring purged items including updating Long-term Backorder notices.
- Receive drop-ship orders and bill customers from assigned Vendors.
- Assist other departments with purchase order and item questions.
- Review and update item minimums for all warehouses on assigned vendors. Ensure we are stocking proper quantities.
- Cross dock inventory between warehouses as necessary to balance inventory.
- Backup purchase for any vendor to cover for Purchasing Agents on PTO.
- Purchase pharmaceutical items as assigned.
Who Are You?
- BS/BA in Business or similar subject
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel)
- 3+ years of purchasing experience
- Self-starter, confident in his/her abilities, self-motivated and able to work effectively with limited supervision
- Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with others
- Strong organization and prioritizing skills
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment, a can-do attitude with excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills
