The Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analytics team enables Operations and key business partners across MassMutual by providing actionable insight to inform both strategic initiatives and operational decisions. Through industry leading tools, we empower all levels of the organization via analytics, reporting, data management, visualization and business technology, to name a few areas. In short, we consult with leaders on business intelligence needs and represent it in ‘business speak’ with powerful visualizations to enable advisor centricity, business performance and align associate activity metrics. On any given day, this could mean sourcing and structuring internal data, integrating third party data, deriving analytical insight, creating leading/lagging indicators or guiding data literacy to engage users in data driven decisioning across their teams. We are businesspeople first, but we understand technology, coding, modeling and bring that together so we can guide functional strategy with analytics.

The Team
Sitting within Business Intelligence, Reporting and Analytics (BIRA), we are seeking a highly experienced leader and systems thinker who can build a comprehensive data and business technology program enabling MassMutual’s Operations strategy. You are a business-focused leader who understands how to partner with enterprise technology to transform data into actionable insight. You have extensive knowledge on the lifecycle of Operations data from structure and design to associate and leader consumption to how it can be strategically leveraged by clients and advisors. The ideal candidate is passionate about unlocking business value through data and can bridge technical capabilities with business needs.

Specifically, you will lead existing and develop new functions on data strategy, data stewardship, CRM system data design with a focus on creating scalable, sustainable approaches to our data ecosystem. This role covers all of Operations (10+ functional areas) representing 2000+ associates and all internal clients who consumes Operations data at varying levels.

The Impact
Specifically, you will lead existing and develop new functions on data strategy, data stewardship, CRM system data design with a focus on creating scalable, sustainable approaches to our data ecosystem. This role covers all of Operations (10+ functional areas) representing 2000+ associates and all internal clients who consumes Operations data at varying levels.
- Develop and refine a comprehensive, modernized data strategy that aligns with business priorities and supports long-term scalability, efficiency, and value realization. Leading a team of ~15 people (data engineers, data stewards, and business technologists) this role is responsible for building an integrated, automated, insight-driven data ecosystem to enable BIRA, the broader Operations organization, and all who consume Operations data inside and outside of MassMutual.
- Define and implement Operations data governance frameworks, including data stewardship models, ownership structures, and quality standards.
- Align with BIRA leaders to drive strategic roadmap on business use cases for the next generation of Operations data and analytics while managing business as usual. Anticipates future data needs and proactively advises on opportunities to leverage new data (both internally and third party) that could empower leaders with better actionable intelligence.
- Partner with ETX and other enterprise stakeholders to influence data architecture decisions that promote structural consistency and reuse, including acting as Operations centralized contact of how BIRA data is prioritized for enterprise data warehouse.
- In partnership with other BIRA leaders, establish clear definitions and processes for KPIs, metrics, and data sources to ensure consistency and trust and enable self-service analytics with curated, governed data assets and education on data best practices.
- Identify opportunities to streamline data tools and platforms in partnership with ETX and business stakeholders. Leads strategic development of BIRA-owned business web assets including the technical design of centralized team landing page.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to business and technical teams, bringing a data lens to both operational and strategic initiatives.
- Equally comfortable defining and driving initiatives as you are ‘getting hands dirty’ in the underlying data.
- 10+ years’ experience in enterprise data strategy, systems design, or data leadership within financial services. Strong background in business intelligence, reporting and analytics strategy in a business facing role.
- Demonstrated understanding of how the business captures and consumes data from the lens of both the client and the advisor.
- Proven experience leading and developing teams, enabling change and creating a data centric culture at all levels. Guides team on transformation and execution of competing initiatives, aligning complementary programs for efficiency.
- Proven ability to translate complex data concepts into clear business value and drive organizational adoption.
- Knowledge of financial services products, services and strategy including life insurance, annuities, and B2B advisor-driven distribution.
- Experience with at least two reporting and analytics/CRM tools such as Salesforce.com, PowerBI, Tableau, or SSRS.
- Advanced degree required, such as Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Masters in Analytics, or MS in Engineering.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, particularly non-technical stakeholders with the ability to drive change at all levels of the organization – incumbent must be equally comfortable presenting to senior leaders as entry level associates.
- Previous experience driving business side functional requirements to concept/logical models.
- Previous experience developing data strategy within CRM systems such as Salesforce.com
- Experience leading resources in multiple international geographies and time zones.
- Understanding of the underpinnings on data governance, stewardship, architecture, and reporting frameworks.
- Exposure to data science concepts.
- Project management skills with the ability to develop and execute a strategic roadmap for team.
- A systems thinker with proven knowledge of advanced data concepts including the development of entity relationship models/dimensional modelling, data architecture, process optimization mapping, and developing a single source of truth.
