As a vital member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will provide strategic oversight of operational functions, including Clubhouse management, risk management, contract compliance, safety, technology, facilities, and transportation ensuring consistent collaboration across all departments. The COO will lead the day-to-day operations, championing the organization’s mission by empowering a high-performing team and ensuring that daily operations are grounded in purpose, excellence and safety. Serving as a central resource for resolving challenges, the COO will drive process improvements and foster alignment with organizational policies by cultivating a culture of trust, inclusivity, and accountability at all levels of the organization to create a lasting impact in the communities we serve.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:
Leadership: Fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability across the organization. Leads, mentors and develops a high-performing operational team to carry out annual goals. Collaborates with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for Club operations that aligns with the organization’s mission and goals. Drives continuous quality improvement initiatives. Aligns strategies for growth by fostering a people-centered approach to employee engagement and organizational culture. Partners with Human Resources Director to resolve complex employee relations matters, ensuring equitable resolutions and effective communication. Promotes opportunities for staff feedback and engagement to support strategic initiatives
Operational Excellence: Supports and guides daily operations of all Club sites, creating safe, welcoming spaces that are aligned with organizational and regulatory standards. Partners with Club leadership and Organizational Trainer to co-create and implement best practices for operational processes and high-quality program delivery. Collaborates with team to set and track meaningful performance metrics tied to strategic plan, with clear deliverables and accountability for staff to carry out accordingly. Leads the design and implementation of streamlined systems for coordinating operational logistics and contract deliverables, ensuring efficiency and alignment across all departments and programs.
Facilities and Safety: Oversees Facilities Technician, Transportation Manager, and Information Technology vendor to ensure a culture of safety is stewarded and maintained. Ensures preventative maintenance is conducted and risks to the organization are identified and mitigated accordingly. Organizes and holds quarterly safety meetings with board-led Safety Committee. Cultivates a supportive environment where policies, procedures and safety standards are collectively understood and upheld, ensuring the well-being and empowerment of both staff and members. Leads the execution of disaster preparedness and emergency response protocols and training.
Budget Management: In conjunction with CEO, Finance Director, and Human Resources Director, develops personnel budget and monitors Club income and expenses for any variances that may need further action.
Partnership Oversight: Manages relationships with critical partners including the School District of Manatee County and the Early Learning Coalition. Oversee all third-party agreements for BGCMC, including managing contracts for external partners, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions. Closely collaborates with Development Team on grant and funding proposals, implementation and reporting.
Planning and Reporting: Establishes and monitor performing metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of Club operations and track progress towards goals. Ensures timely completion of Club program deliverables for grants on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Prepares monthly operational updates for the Board of Directors.
Community Engagement: Identifies, establishes and participates in activities to maintain good public relations with Club programs, services, fundraising and other activities.
Risk Management: Oversees insurance requirements/compliance expectations. Identifies potential risks that could impede the reputation, safety, security or mission of the organization with strategies to minimize impact.
Additional Responsibilities:
Supervision: Traditional Club Directors, Academic Success Director, Director of Graduation and Workforce Readiness, Prevention/Outreach Manager, Transportation Manager, Senior Maintenance Technician and Contracted Information Technology vendor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Commitment to a welcoming and inclusive environment with demonstrated cultural competence. Progressive leadership in operations management with at least 5 years of experience working in senior leadership teams. Proven track record of managing change and driving organizational growth. Strong strategic planning, budgeting, project management, and problem-solving skills. Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to inspire and lead diverse teams towards a shared vision. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and other productivity tools. Ability to travel locally and work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Position Requirements:
The incumbent of this position is expected to have a bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, Nonprofit management, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a senior management role, preferably within a non-profit organization, is required. The COO should also have a proven record of successful operational management and strategic planning.
