We are in search of a Business Data Analyst I or Business Data Analyst II to join our Data Management department in Spokane, Washington. This full-time position reports to the Manager, Data Management and collaborates with internal stakeholders as an intermediary between the business and technical community to ensure organizational information needs are met and data governance standards are maintained or enhanced for all strategic initiatives. This position is responsible for collecting, clarifying, and translating business requirements into documentation and conceptual design from which business solutions are developed.

After an initial in-office training period, this position is eligible for workplace flexibility and a one-time home office stipend. Employees are expected to continue working from their office location a minimum of 50% or 60% of the time depending on location.

Compensation Information

The base salary range for this position in Spokane, Washington is:

Level I

Typical starting range: $58,500 - $78,300

Full base salary range: $58,800 - $97,500

Annual performance-based incentive target is 8% or 10% of base depending on experience.

Level II

Typical starting range: $70,800 - $97,500

Full base salary range: $70,800 - $110,800

Annual performance-based incentive target is 10% of base.

Job Requirements

  • Work with internal stakeholders, including IT project teams and business clients, to develop high-level requirements that provide solutions to the most critical and complex user and business needs while ensuring the solutions align with intended business outcomes; utilize information to shape data solutions needed to address stated business outcomes and ensure data governance standards are maintained or enhanced on all assigned projects.
  • Clearly articulate and documents business requirements including communications, training needs, and procedures.
  • Develop recommendations, design solutions using appropriate tools and models, and directly participate in the building and testing of data solutions to achieve business outcomes while ensuring usability and data governance outcomes are met.
  • Perform ad-hoc data querying and analysis to support validation, data quality, and data extracts.
  • Deliver quality solutions, including effective communications to ensure adoption of new processes across the organization.
  • Serve as a technical resource for supporting mission critical data.
  • Perform all duties and maintain all standards in accordance with company policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, business, accounting, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Generally, requires experience as a business analyst, systems analyst or a similar role, ideally in financial institution operations.
  • Understanding of databases, data integration and mining, and analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of business technology, financial management concepts, and methods of analysis.
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to structure and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage assignments.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and control assigned activities.

Preferred Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend and write SQL code.
  • Knowledgeable in at least one reporting toolset, preferably PowerBI.
  • R-Studio experience.
  • Knowledge of Python coding.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft data products.
  • Ability to identify patterns and potential issues and translate ambiguous business needs into solid functional requirements.
  • Ability to influence and demonstrate team leadership in all interactions.
  • Ability to effectively elicit information to create concise, organized business requirements.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to evaluate cross functional dependencies, including upstream and downstream impacts.
