The Community Charter School of Paterson is seeking an Assistant School Leader to join our Elementary School.
The Assistant School Leader drives and owns student instructional outcomes, dedicating over 75% of their time to instructional leadership. They serve as key decision-makers for a specific content area or grade level, coaching teachers to enhance instructional effectiveness and ensure high-quality student learning. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Serve as a key member of the school’s leadership team, aligning instructional priorities with school and regional goals.
- Collaborate with school leaders to make data-driven decisions and address instructional challenges.
- Promote and implement a shared vision for instructional excellence through expectation setting, modeling, and constant reflection for continuous improvement.
- Serve as the chief instructional leader for designated content area and or grade band.
- Develop and implement a standards-aligned curriculum that supports student learning.
- Design a curriculum implementation flow to ensure coherence across grade levels and subjects.
- Establish and reinforce instructional habits and routines that drive academic success.
- Directly manage pacing calendars, lesson internalization processes, and unit launches in collaboration with instructional staff.
- Effectively manage relationships with curriculum vendors and consultants to maximize resources, align with strategic goals, and enhance support for effective teaching and learning.
- Lead the vision for assessment culture in alignment with school leadership.
- Oversee the administration of assessments, ensuring fidelity to testing procedures.
- Facilitate data analysis cycles to inform instructional decisions.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies based on performance data.
- Conduct observations, walkthroughs, and real-time coaching to improve teaching practices.
- Provide actionable feedback and support to teachers to enhance instructional effectiveness.
- Ensure instructional strategies align with state and national standards.
- Design and lead professional development sessions focused on evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Serve as a lead teacher when necessary to support teacher development and enhance student learning.
- Serves as a formal administrative evaluator for teacher performance.
- Audit and analyze instructional data to identify trends and inform strategic priorities.
- Coach a portfolio of teachers to improve student outcomes and instructional delivery.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth among educators.
- Serve as the primary culture leader for designated grade bands, ensuring optimal teaching and learning conditions while fostering the internalization of school values.
- Foster a positive and engaging learning environment for all students by developing clear and consistent routines and systems in collaboration with instructional and student support staff.
- Build strong relationships between students and staff, focusing on supporting high-need students.
- Uphold high behavioral and academic expectations consistently across the school.
- Build and sustain a positive, high-performing school culture for staff by intentionally developing professional workplace relationships, rituals, and routines.
- Provide regular feedback and recognition to support staff development.
- Model and reinforce high expectations for professional conduct and collaboration.
- Lead academic events and programming to enhance family and community engagement.
- Partner with and engage families and community stakeholders as active partners in student success.
- Establish strong communication and collaboration between families and teachers.
- Implement a performance management system that includes observations, micro-goals, and evaluations.
- Identify and retain top-performing teachers while providing targeted coaching for underperforming staff.
- Develop teacher leaders to build instructional capacity within the school.
- Lead and oversee specific school-wide initiatives or key areas to ensure effective implementation (e.g., student services/CST, teacher leader development, grade book management).
- Support the School Leader in executing strategic priorities.
- Student academic growth and attainment (e.g., Quarterly Assessments, NJSLA scores, Middle School - GPA improvement).
- Reading level growth and on-grade-level attainment (K-8).
- Teacher retention
- Teacher growth on the evaluation rubric
- % of teachers meeting goals
- Compliance with observation/feedback cycles and teacher development plans.
- School culture metrics, including attendance, chronic absenteeism, student engagement, and Insight
- Demonstrated leadership capability in the areas of curriculum.
- Master’s degree or Doctorate Degree from an accredited college/university.
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
- Exceptional leadership aptitude, with the ability to inspire students, staff and personnel. thrives as part of a highly motivated, committed professional team.
- Two years of supervisory experience in an educational urban and charter setting, is preferred.
- Experience in the development and implementation of impactful and differentiated professional development for instructional personnel.
- Innovative with the ability to use data and research to develop creative solutions to the academic challenges faced by our students.
- Experience with establishing and leading professional learning communities that impact student learning and teacher instruction.
- Experience with developing deep partnerships with diverse stakeholders including parents, students, and community partners.
- Spanish speaking is preferred but not a requirement.
