The Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies at Indiana University Bloomington is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community dedicated to the study of the historical and contemporary experiences of people of African descent in the United States and across the globe. Our faculty and students engage in rigorous scholarship that explores Black life through diverse lenses, including history, literature, sociology, religion, and cultural studies.
This position is part of the Black Humanities in the Midwest (BHIM) Project, a 5-year grant initiative that amplifies Black humanities scholarship and community engagement across IU campuses. The BHIM Project reflects our department's commitment to advancing Africana Studies through collaborative research, public scholarship, and interdisciplinary partnerships. The Project Manager will play a key role in supporting this transformative initiative, working closely with faculty, researchers, and external partners to ensure its success.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Manages a large and complex 5-year Black Humanities in the Midwest grant project from start to finish under oversight of Principal Investigator(s), ensuring on time completion within budget and meeting the objectives and goals of the grant.
- Develops project plans and efficiently analyzes, tracks, forecasts, and reports on project metrics and shortfall.
- Coordinates and facilitates efforts of a project team consisting of multiple internal and external partners, in addition to managing the project coordinator.
- Manages large projects of the most complex nature, from start to finish, ensuring on time completion within budget.
- Analyzes, tracks, forecasts, and reports on project metrics and shortfalls.
- Communicates ongoing changes in tasks, goals, or performance; supervises and trains project staff as needed.
- Develops and maintains project schedules, goals, and communication.
- Matrix manages teams to develop, evaluate, and revise project processes.
- Collaborates with other departments to ensure that project objectives are achieved within established time frames.
- Participates in client meetings, contract finalization, and development of requirements and specifications.
- Provides guidance and support to less experienced peers.
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field
- Master's degree in relevant field
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience in the discipline of Africana Studies
- Experience in working in higher education
- Experience with working with higher education researchers and administrators
- Experience with working with third-party professional vendors (ex., public relations and marketing professionals, graphic design specialists)
