21ST CENT SCHOLARS (BL-TFSS-IUBLA)

Founded in 1995, the IU 21st Century Scholars Program (IUB21CS), is the oldest and largest student support services department in the State of Indiana. The IUB21CS provides financial and academic resources to support, retain, and graduate thousands of 21st Century Scholars recipients at Indiana University Bloomington (IUB). As an IU 21st Century Scholar, access is granted to the academic guidance, mentoring, and advocacy support needed to achieve full potential at IUB. The IUB21CS is ranked #1 in Indiana for the number of students receiving the 'first-dollar, full-tuition, need-based Indiana 21st Century Scholarship at any 4-year public or private university.

The Student Office Assistant supports the 21st Century Scholars Program by helping maintain a productive and supportive academic environment for scholars. This role involves both independent and supervised tasks, with a primary focus on monitoring student participation in designated study areas and secondary responsibilities in general office support.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Monitors student activity in assigned study table areas to ensure academic engagement.
  • Scans student identification cards and maintains accurate attendance records.
  • Ensures students remain present and active during their signed-in study periods.
  • Answers telephones, takes messages, and provides basic information as needed.
  • Assists with scanning printed materials into electronic formats.
  • Supports the promotion of program events through various communication channels.
  • Maintains confidentiality and adhere to FERPA guidelines at all times.
  • Arrives on time and is dependable for all scheduled shifts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by program staff.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
  • Maintain at least a 2.5 semester and cumulative GPA for the duration of their service.

Skills

Required

  • Self-motivated, organized, and responsible.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a close-knit team.
  • Comfortable interacting and communicating with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and perspective.
  • Demonstrates Interest in event planning, outreach, and marketing.
  • Proficient in common office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintains a professional and approachable demeanor.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
