FOLKLORE AND ETHNOMUSICOLOGY (BL-FOLK-IUBLA)
The Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University (IU) is a leading center for the worldwide study of vernacular arts, and of the historical, cultural and social contexts in which these arts are embedded. The home to 2 closely aligned disciplines with a deep shared history at IU, the department has a distinguished history and a bright future in the areas of research, teaching, public outreach and community service. At all levels, students are trained to both make sense of the human world and to engage it actively as globally aware citizens. The department offers numerous joint degree programs and is home to a rich mixture of archives, public art programs, and publication initiatives, all of which provide tremendous opportunities for students to learn outside of the classroom.

- Serves as first point of contact for the department and assists visitors to the department.
- Provides general office assistance for faculty and graduate students, including copy machine and mailing.
- Manages the department email account and classroom calendars.
- Responds to general inquiries and forwards specific emails accordingly.
- Responsible for alumni newsletter, including layout/design and some writing/editing.
- Creates and distributes advertisements and announcements, both in electronic and paper form and postings to public online calendars.
- Assists with set up, tear down, and cleaning up of department events.
- Provides clerical support to the department. Assists with document creation, dictation, copying, and collating for projects related to the management of the department.
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
- Associate's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 2 years of clerical office work
Required
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and focus with frequent interruptions
- Proficiency with computer systems including standard office software such as Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
