Basic Function

With direction, oversee the daily operations of the Instructional Media Services (IMS) Department. Plan, coordinate and supervise the activities of the Instructional Materials Center (IMC) staff. Maintain the District’s State textbook allocations and develop, monitor and maintain site textbook allocations and expenditures. Provide leadership, instruction, and support for media resource personnel at the K-12 school sites. Establish and coordinate expedient procedures for the ordering, processing, distribution and retrieval of instructional media. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE OF: Library methods and procedures related to the processing and circulation of books and other instructional materials. Operation, use and general maintenance of an instructional media center. Principles of training and providing work direction. Library terminology, practices and procedures. Library materials and equipment used in instructional programs. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Methods, practices and terminology used in bookkeeping and accounting. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary and composition. Oral and written communications skills. Operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques. Computer software used in the library and IMC. ABILITY TO: Oversee the operation and maintenance of a District instructional media center. Perform complex and varied library duties related to technical processing and circulation of library materials. Train and provide work direction to others. Prioritize work load and direct work assignments to accomplish tasks in a timely manner. Operate equipment available in the Instructional Media Center. Maintain records and prepare reports. Follow complex verbal and written instructions. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Compose correspondence independently.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and five years of increasingly responsible library or instructional media center experience. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver’s license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS If selected for the position, out-of-district applicants must be T.B. tested and fingerprinted. A practical skills test may be administered at the time of interview.
