The Head Teacher is responsible for planning and effectively executing an educational program in line with the center's curriculum, goals, and philosophy at Palisades Medical Center (PMC). This position is responsible for daily plans of specific classrooms, and oversees group teachers in assigned age groups. In doing so, this role is to cultivate a safe and nurturing environment designed to meet the physical and developmental needs of the children through curriculum, observations and developmentally appropriate practices.

Responsibilties
A day in the life of a Head Teacher at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Planning, scheduling and implementing the daily schedules and curriculum for the assigned age group.
- Assists in coordination for the use of shared classroom space and outdoor space.
- Assists staff in assessing children's developmental needs and planning appropriate activities.
- Helps children develop appropriate real-life skills activities such as eating, self-dressing, as well as personal hygiene.
- Keeping progress notes and written records on the emotional, physical, social and intellectual development of the children.
- Supervising staff, delegating responsibilities and tasks, and encouraging the development of assistant teachers, aids, and other child care personnel in the classroom.
- Assuring that equipment and materials are accessible, appropriate and in good condition.
- Assesses outdoor and indoor areas with regard to safety and appropriateness for groups.
- Maintaining a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere for staff and children.
- Holding center responsibility in the absence of the director and assistant director.
- Communicating with parents and teachers to accommodate and promote the children's needs and their development.
- Prepares and submits weekly written outline of planned activities.
- Reviews weekly group teachers' lesson plans.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development or related field.
- Minimum of 2-5 years teaching experience with children under 5 years of age, two of which must be in assigned age group.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
- Knowledge of Grow NJ Kids Guidelines.
- Experience with Creative Curriculum.
- Experience with Procare Parent Communication App.
- Adult/Child CPR and First Aid.
- Regular contact with medical personnel and its visitors.
