Scientific Drilling is looking for a QHSE Coordinator to be based in Midland, TX. Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide. Position Summary

The QHSE Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective implementation and continuous improvement of Scientific Drilling International's Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) management systems within the Midland district, with a strong emphasis on service quality and safety for directional drilling operations. This position requires a proactive individual who can work independently to drive compliance, foster a strong safety culture, and enhance overall service quality.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Quality Management Systems:

  • Support the development and lead the implementation of product-line quality systems across the Midland district, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and industry standards (e.g., API Q1, API Q2, ISO 9001).
  • Verify compliance and effectiveness of Scientific Drilling's Quality System (QS) by scheduling, leading, and implementing internal audit programs within the district.
  • Ensure overall effectiveness of the organization's QS by initiating, verifying, and tracking corrective and preventative actions related to quality service delivery and product performance.
  • Implement and deliver QS training programs that support the overall management strategic roadmap, with a focus on service quality best practices for directional drilling.
  • Participate in and/or lead management reviews at the district level, specifically addressing quality performance metrics and improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for continually improving processes and systems by utilizing methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
  • Work independently to develop and implement documentation such as procedures, work instructions, process maps, and various checklists that determine appropriate actions required to fulfill quality management objectives and strategies.
  • Support company non-conformance and Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) web-based software programs, ensuring timely and effective resolution of quality issues.
  • Actively improve and document quality performance and the effectiveness of the Quality Management System (QMS) by preventing defects downstream and diligently following documented procedures to meet all quality objectives.
  • Work continuously to streamline Quality System and Quality Management System processes.

Health And Safety Management

  • Assist in the implementation and sustainment of Scientific Drilling's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management system (Target 10) within the Midland district.
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits at rig locations, shops, yards, and offices to verify compliance with HSE standards and identify potential hazards.
  • Lead and participate in incident investigations for all HSE incidents and near misses, regardless of severity, focusing on root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys, TapRooT) to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure timely reporting and notification of all incidents (occupational injuries/illnesses, vehicle incidents, environmental releases/spills, property damage, security incidents, near misses, service delivery failures, equipment/tool failures) to supervisors and relevant QHSE personnel.
  • Develop, implement, and update site-specific Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for the Midland district, addressing credible risks such as fire, medical emergencies, severe weather, and security threats.
  • Plan and document emergency drills (e.g., evacuation drills) at least twice per year to evaluate employee readiness and incorporate lessons learned.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by actively participating in and encouraging employee engagement in programs such as Stop Work Authority (SWA) and the Observation Program (Behavior and Hazard Observations).
  • Provide HSE training and awareness sessions to employees on various topics, including hazard identification, risk assessment, safe work practices, and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all personnel, based on workplace risk assessments.
  • Monitor and manage exposure to workplace health hazards, including respiratory protection, fatigue, and environmental temperature extremes.
  • Oversee the safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of dangerous goods and hazardous substances (e.g., chemicals, lithium batteries, radioactive materials), ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are inspected, operated, and maintained safely and in accordance with OEM recommendations and company standards.
  • Maintain a current hazard register for the Midland facility, ensuring identified hazards are controlled and risks are mitigated to As Low As Reasonably Practical (ALARP).

Job Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, API Q1/Q2) and HSE Management Systems (e.g., OSHA, industry best practices).
  • Proven ability to conduct effective audits, investigations, and risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in developing and delivering training programs.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with web-based QHSE software programs.
  • Knowledge of directional drilling services and associated QHSE risks is highly desirable.

Education, Experience, Certification, And Training

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Quality Management, Engineering, or a related field; OR equivalent Oil and Gas experience and knowledge.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a QHSE role within the oil and gas industry, OR 5 years of general Oil and Gas experience.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies is highly desirable.
