Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 12 locations throughout New York City.
Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Child Care Provider at our Domestic Violence (DV) Shelter. In this role, you will play a vital part in creating a supportive and engaging environment for children residing in the shelter for after-school and summer programming. The Childcare Provider is responsible for planning and implementing a variety of educational, recreational, and enrichment activities that cater to the diverse needs and interests of the children. Please note this is a part-time position (28 hours per week).

Responsibilities
- Be prepared to address and de-escalate emotional crises or conflicts among children.
- Foster a nurturing and empathetic environment to help children cope with the challenges they may be facing.
- Develop and implement a diverse range of activities suitable for families and children in a shelter setting.
- Collaborate with team members to create a monthly activity calendar that includes recreational, educational, and social events.
- Provide guidance and support to participants during activities, fostering a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
- Work closely with other shelter staff to align activities with overall program goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with external partners and volunteers to enhance the variety and impact of activities offered.
- Regularly assess the effectiveness and impact of activities on participants' well-being.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and participation in shelter activities.
- Compile data for reports on the success and outcomes of various programs.
- The hours fluctuate depending on whether it's during the after-school program or the summer program.
- Active in planning and carrying out informed activities and lessons.
- Provides coverage/services for all programs in the Children and Family Services program as needed.
- Keeps children clean and change pampers of infants and toddlers as needed.
- Prepares children’s meals and maintains meal counts as needed.
- Trains and coaches children toward independence as needed.
- Sensitivity to domestic violence issues.
- Knowledge of age appropriate activities.
- Ability to establish rapport and trust with children and their parents.
- Ability to multitask.
- First Aid/CPR certified or able to obtain certification.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.
