Description

The Healthcare Project/Risk Manager is responsible for planning, initiating, and managing healthcare IT projects, with a focus on risk management and mitigation. This role involves leading project teams, coordinating business and technical aspects, and ensuring that project milestones, deadlines, standards, and cost targets are met. The Healthcare Project/Risk Manager will apply expertise in assessing risks, tracking progress, and providing actionable recommendations to drive project success.

The Healthcare Project/Risk Manager is a critical role in ensuring the success of healthcare IT projects by proactively managing risks and ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. The ideal candidate will be an experienced project leader with a deep understanding of risk management in the healthcare sector.

  • Role Details: This is a temporary W2 role for 3 months, with the possibility of follow-on work, though it is not guaranteed. The position is remote, but preferred candidates would be located in the VA/MD/DC area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, monitor, and mitigate programmatic risks across assessment workstreams, ensuring the timely delivery of project milestones and compliance with contract requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk analyses related to healthcare delivery, performance outcomes, interagency coordination, and data quality to identify potential threats and opportunities.
  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies using both quantitative and qualitative data, adjusting approaches as needed to reduce exposure.
  • Collaborate with assessment leads and other key stakeholders to integrate risk insights into final reports and actionable implementation recommendations.
  • Utilize tools such as Power BI and risk registers to maintain real-time visibility into program risk exposure, ensuring the proactive management of risk throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure risk considerations are embedded into strategic recommendations and communicated effectively to VA leadership and Congressional stakeholders to inform decision-making and drive operational improvements.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in healthcare project management, risk management, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in managing complex healthcare IT projects, with an emphasis on risk identification, mitigation, and reporting.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Healthcare Project Management: Expertise in managing healthcare IT projects, including planning, execution, and delivery, with a focus on meeting deadlines, budget constraints, and quality standards.
  • Risk Management Expertise: Strong knowledge of risk management principles and methodologies, with the ability to identify, analyze, and mitigate risks across healthcare programs and projects.
  • Analytical and Data-Driven: Ability to use both quantitative and qualitative data to assess risks, track mitigation effectiveness, and make informed decisions to drive project success.
  • Tools and Technology: Proficiency with tools such as Power BI, risk registers, and project management software to manage real-time risk visibility and reporting.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work closely with project teams, assessment leads, and senior stakeholders to integrate risk insights into actionable project recommendations.
  • Communication and Reporting: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively present risk insights and strategic recommendations to leadership and stakeholders, including VA and Congressional teams.
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to adjust strategies and approaches based on evolving project needs and external factors.

Work Schedule

Consistent, full-time work expected Monday – Friday, eight hours per day in a focused and fast-paced environment.
