Job Description

The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) is seeking a highly motivated, skilled, solution-oriented, and enthusiastic professional to join our regulatory department and serve as an Administrative Support Assistant 3 at our central office near Valley Junction in Des Moines, Iowa.

DIAL is a multifaceted regulatory agency charged with protecting the health, safety, and well-being of Iowans, and is comprised of eight core operational divisions: Administrative Hearings, Building & Construction, Health & Safety, Investigations, Labor/OSHA, Licensing, Workers’ Compensation, and Administration.

The Board Operations Bureau of the Professional Licensing Division is responsible for ensuring that the 26 professional boards it oversees are running efficiently and effectively for the safety of all Iowans. The Board Operations Bureau works closely with the Bureaus of Application & Renewal, Compliance, and Monitoring and works with aspects of the Division.

The successful candidate will report to the Bureau Chief of Board Operations and will serve as the key person approving all public agendas for board meetings and ensuring the public has the legally required notice of all meetings. This position will also routinely facilitate board meetings by operating zoom and taking minutes for the board. A background demonstrating a high attention to detail and previous work with boards is desirable. This position will be located at 6200 Park Avenue in Des Moines.

What You’ll Do

You will be an integral member of our Investigations and Inspections administrative team, providing direct support to the agency’s operations by:

  • Approve all meeting agendas for the Division’s boards.
  • Maintain and assume responsibility for DIAL’s public calendar for board meetings.
  • Send electronic notices of board meetings to the general public through GovDelivery.
  • Procuring supplies for various boards.
  • Take detailed minutes of board meetings.
  • Manage Zoom and other technical matters for board meetings.
  • Update board websites as needed.
  • Provide answers to stakeholders and public members when they have questions related to DIALs various boards.
  • Communicate in a highly professional manner.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Two years of full-time work experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.
  • A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 2 or eighteen months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.
