Job Summary
Highly skilled and detail-oriented Engineering Specialist to support Engineering and Manufacturing. This role is
essential for ensuring manufacturing efficiency, conducting root cause analysis, troubleshooting process challenges,
and driving continuous improvement. Supports all aspects of the thin film manufacturing process across all shifts.
All duties require a commitment to safety, quality, accuracy, and execution with excellence through continuous

Key Responsibilities
Work within a manufacturing environment; moderate temperature and noise level, occasionally elevated
Ability to remain in a seated or standing position for the duration of the scheduled shift, as required by job duties
Ability to handle delicate optical components and precision tools with fine manual control while adhering to
contamination control and handling protocols
Ability to perform overhead and elevated tasks, including ladder work, requiring physical capability to maintain
stability, reach, and control while adhering to safety standards
Be able to work in various positions, including but not limited to, reaching, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting,
kneeling, and squatting for extended periods; be able to perform highly repetitive tasks with hands while standing
or sitting for up to 10 hours
Comfortable working with solvents, cleaning agents, lasers, sharp instruments, and high-temperature equipment,
following all safety and part handling protocols
Visual acuity for close and mid-range tasks, including viewing small components and using a microscope
Required to wear a respirator, hairnet, face mask, gloves, and clean room suit when necessary
Be able to work extended hours (overtime) when required
Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks
Must be able to lift and/or move 35 pounds of weight on occasion

Key Responsibilities
- Under minimal supervision, provides technical support, training, and acts as liaison between departments during all aspects of the manufacturing process (order intake to post shipment customer support)
- Work cross-functionally to support engineering, quality, and R&D teams to drive innovation
- Evaluate coating runs, review spectral and quality results to provide timely feedback and recommend process, scanning, annealing, or mechanical adjustments
- Analyze coating machine process data and SPC charts using internal software to assess performance and suggest parameter changes
- Standardize and maintain machine configurations; collaborate with planning and engineering to align setups with production and technical needs
- Optimize machine performance using manufacturing data and analysis tools to improve coating uniformity, deposition rates, and material properties
- Review customer documents (e.g., purchase orders, quotes, drawings) and define product specifications to create accurate internal product specifications in the MES system
- Provide product disposition on standard product based on test data to assess compliance with customer specifications with minimal guidance; document and communicate disposition results and next steps in the MES
- Prepare and verify customer documentation, including source inspection records, first article inspection reports, serialization information, product performance data, and other required delivery documentation
- Perform product testing, gather results, and report data in a compliant format
- Research and gather data to address consumer concerns and complaints
- Assist in troubleshooting equipment and process issues to maintain production efficiency
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and process controls
- Obtain certifications and/or qualifications as required to ensure compliance with industry standards and Company expectations
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines
- Adhere to Company quality policy, environmental policy, sustainability policy, and safety programs
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor/management
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline; mechanical or electrical engineering, or physics preferred OR high school diploma or equivalent PLUS 3 years of experience in thin film coating in an engineering/technical capacity in operations design, development, or manufacturing
- Strong software & computer competency, including MS Office and advanced Excel skills
- Skilled in reading, comprehending, interpreting, and executing detailed instructions, and short correspondence (e.g., e-mails, texts, instant messaging)
- Skilled in writing simple, informational, and technical correspondence
- Team oriented and driven to meet goals and improve processes
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Can multitask and work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Must maintain satisfactory attendance, including timeliness
- U.S. Person per EAR Part 772 AND ITAR 120.15
- Experience with data analysis, statistics, and experimental design, along with creation and execution of test plans, methods, and technical reporting
- Experience in thin film manufacturing and/or any manufacturing environment; experience in optical coating, metrology, disposition, cleaning, parts assembly, and fabrication
- Experience with thin film design software such as TFCalc, Optilayer, etc.
- Experience in developing Standard Operating Procedures, Job Safety/Hazard Analysis, or Work Instructions
- Hands-on experience with metrology equipment, such as but not limited to spectrophotometers, laser measurement systems, Zygo interferometers, part measurement systems, etc.
- Familiar with quality, environmental, and safety programs/standards/regulations such as ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, CAL OSHA, and clean room requirements
- Familiar with lean manufacturing methods/tools (5-s, root cause analysis, continuous improvement cycle)
