Position Summary:

NYBG’s strategic operations department shapes strategy, facilitates planning, and enhances operational efficiency to help NYBG achieve its business objectives. The Business Operations Associate will focus on fostering interdepartmental collaboration related to institutional event, programmatic, and project scheduling, and be charged with sharing key operational information amongst relevant staff members. The Associate will also play a key role in writing, refining, and disseminating the Garden’s emergency and workplace safety documentation. Strong analytical thinking and creative problem-solving are required along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate across departments for operational planning, scheduling, and streamlining
  • Consolidate, create, and continually refine documentation of NYBG’s policies and protocols, and build awareness of such documentation
  • Communicate critical business information to key constituents in a manner that is timely, professional, and understandable
  • Connect staff to resources and opportunities through a variety of internal communications including staff guides, a monthly staff newsletter, the NYBG intranet, and ad-hoc emails
  • In partnership with the department’s director, develop written reports and analyses related to strategic initiatives and/or new business opportunities to present to senior decision-makers—and assist in implementation of initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to optimize resource allocation and enhance efficiency across operational units
  • Perform other duties as specified and needed by department management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience)
  • 1-2 years working in business administration, project management, strategic planning, marketing, accounting, finance or economics preferred
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical skills, and knowledge of industry trends
  • Demonstrated workflow management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work autonomously, collaborate with internal partners, and schedule and facilitate meetings
  • Advanced writing and proofreading skills
  • Microsoft Office experience, with an emphasis on Word and Excel required
  • Valid driver’s license preferred

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to work at a computer terminal for most of the day. Occasionally, the employee will need to traverse the Garden grounds, stand and work outdoors for several hours in a variety of weather conditions, and move items up to 30 pounds. Baseline Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., with flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends

Salary: Commensurate with experience within the range of $55,000-$60,000.
