Position Summary

The Power BI / Data Analyst plays a critical role in driving data-informed decision-making across the organization by delivering trusted analytics, enabling self-service capabilities, and enhancing organizational reporting maturity. Operating within a financial and enterprise context, this role works in close alignment with the Lead IT Systems Administrator, Data Engineer, Security Analyst, Lines of Business (LOBs), and Compliance/Risk teams to ensure infrastructure readiness, data security, and business-driven insight delivery.



Core Responsibilities


1. Data Analysis & Insights Generation

  • Analyze structured and unstructured business data to uncover trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis and recommendations to support strategic initiatives.
  • Translate complex data into clear, business-friendly narratives for decision-makers.
  • Validate data integrity to ensure the accuracy and trustworthiness of insights.
  • Apply statistical, financial, and machine learning–enabled methods to support business cases, risk oversight, and growth modeling.

2. Power BI Reporting & Dashboard Development

  • Design, build, and optimize interactive Power BI dashboards and reports.
  • Leverage DAX for calculated columns, measures, and KPIs that align with business objectives.
  • Apply UX/UI best practices for report layout and navigation.
  • Implement role-level security to protect sensitive data in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Enable mobile-friendly and embedded partner-facing dashboards when required.
  • Explore AI-driven dashboard features (e.g., Copilot in Power BI) for automated insights, trend detection, and natural language querying.

3. Data Modeling & Preparation

  • Develop efficient star and snowflake schemas in Power BI or enterprise semantic layers.
  • Shape, transform, and clean data using Power Query (M) to ensure model accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to align modeling with enterprise architecture.
  • Ensure relationships, cardinality, and filter propagation follow best practices.
  • Support ingestion testing and validation of pipelines, including AI-ready datasets for advanced analytics.

4. Collaboration & Requirements Gathering

  • Partner with business leaders to capture analytical needs, KPIs, and success criteria.
  • Translate business questions into measurable data requirements.
  • Coordinate with Data Engineers and IT to ensure pipelines are ready and secure.
  • Lead working sessions and report walkthroughs for stakeholders.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to executives, compliance teams, and partners.
  • Contribute to the AI Working Group, identifying use cases where BI outputs can be extended with AI/ML models.

5. Self-Service Enablement & Governance

  • Develop standardized datasets and reusable semantic models for business use.
  • Maintain data dictionaries, report guides, and metadata documentation.
  • Educate business users on Power BI usage, basic data literacy, and safe use of AI-powered tools.
  • Support governance policies for consistent reporting and compliance.
  • Foster a data and AI-driven culture by championing best practices in analytics adoption.

6. Monitoring & Optimization

  • Monitor performance, refresh schedules, and usage metrics of reports and datasets.
  • Troubleshoot data refresh errors, inefficiencies, and user access issues.
  • Track adoption and assess the value of analytics solutions.
  • Leverage AI-assisted monitoring tools to identify anomalies, usage trends, or optimization opportunities.

7. Data Quality & Validation

  • Validate outputs against source systems to ensure accuracy.
  • Partner with IT and Compliance/Risk to address anomalies or inconsistencies.
  • Proactively flag integrity concerns and recommend remediation steps.
  • Support data cleanup initiatives to reduce duplication and non-standard reporting.
  • Ensure training data for AI models is clean, well-governed, and regulatory-compliant.

8. Documentation, Change Management & Audit Readiness

  • Maintain documentation for each dashboard, KPI, and dataset.
  • Track version history and changes to calculations, data sources, and logic.
  • Support audits by documenting lineage, controls, and compliance evidence.
  • Document use of AI-enabled features to ensure transparency, explainability, and regulatory alignment.



Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or related role
  • Proficiency in Power BI, DAX, Power Query (M language), and SQL
  • Experience working with enterprise data platforms such as Azure and Snowflake
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts and visualization best practices
  • Excellent communication skills; understands business needs by asking the right questions and clarifying requirements
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Familiarity with data governance, privacy, and compliance in financial services
  • Ability to pivot between projects or priorities in a fast-changing environment
  • Excellent attention to detail; ensures accuracy and integrity of reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a financial institution or enterprise environment
  • Knowledge of advanced analytics, AI, or machine learning concepts
  • Experience with APIs and integrating BI solutions with other enterprise systems
  • Background in change management and user adoption strategies
  • Professional certifications in Power BI, SQL, or data analytics
