THE TEAM

Our *NIX Team is a highly skilled, fast-paced group of engineers responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining enterprise Linux and AIX environments. We support critical infrastructure across x86 and Power platforms, ensuring high availability, security, and performance. From managing Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP) to securing and optimizing enterprise storage, our team plays a key role in keeping the business running efficiently.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Install, upgrade, and patch Linux, AIX, VMware/XCP-ng, and PowerVM VIOS systems
  • Install and support Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP)
  • Rack and stack x86 and Power hardware
  • Backup and Recovery
  • Upgrade and maintain management tools
  • Responsible for security hardening and remediation of all supported infrastructure
  • Create and maintain scripts to schedule repetitive, detailed, and/or off-hour tasks
  • Support production environments 24x7 through on-call rotations
  • Create and update documentation and Ansible playbooks

THE MUST-HAVES

  • 5 years of experience working with AIX or other UNIX/Linux operating systems
  • Proficient in Korn/Bash shell and/or Python/Perl scripting skills
  • IT Security Knowledge- understanding hardening and compliance
  • General understanding of network/distributed computing environment concepts: host routing tables, fundamental TCP/IP protocols, and DNS
  • Drive to learn new technologies
  • Desire to analyze problems, propose solutions, and troubleshoot issues to resolution
  • Work well under pressure, grasp new ideas quickly, and thrive in a dynamic and diverse environment
  • Ability to maintain a schedule-driven project list while handling interruptions in a timely and effective manner
  • Highly motivated, effective oral and written communicator with a positive attitude
  • Participation in on-call rotation

THE NICE-TO-HAVES

  • Understanding of Open Storage subsystems and Storage Area Networks
  • Understanding of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
  • Experience installing and configuring complex IBM Storage Scale enterprise environments on AIX and Linux
  • Understanding of F5 and its use for application delivery control (e.g., Load Balancers)

WITHIN 1 MONTH, YOU'LL

  • Gain access to all necessary systems, tools, and documentation.
  • Understand team processes, escalation procedures, and on-call expectations.
  • Review architecture, hardware layouts, and supported infrastructure (Linux, AIX, PowerVM, VMware/XCP-ng, OpenShift, storage, and backup solutions).
  • Shadow team members on key tasks such as patching, backup processes, and storage management.
  • Begin working on small tasks such as documentation updates, basic scripting, or system monitoring improvements.

WITHIN 2 MONTHS, YOU'LL

  • Independently perform basic administrative tasks, such as patching, user management, and system monitoring.
  • Participate in system updates, storage provisioning, or OpenShift deployments with minimal supervision.
  • Contribute to automation efforts by writing or modifying scripts for repetitive tasks.
  • Take ownership of at least one documentation update or improvement.
  • Assist in troubleshooting production issues under the guidance of senior team members.

WITHIN 3 MONTHS, YOU'LL

  • Independently handle routine system administration tasks across Linux, AIX, OpenShift, and storage environments.
  • Contribute meaningfully to a team project, such as infrastructure upgrades, security hardening, or automation improvements.
  • Rotate into the on-call schedule and effectively respond to incidents.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of system architecture by contributing to design discussions.
  • Identify at least one area for process improvement and propose a solution.
  • Be a productive, self-sufficient team member capable of handling day-to-day operations and contributing to team goals.
