HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology is a nonprofit leader in genomics research, STEM education, and agricultural innovation. In partnership with the City of Dothan, HudsonAlpha Wiregrass extends this mission to the Wiregrass region-driving economic growth, expanding STEM learning, and advancing agriculture research through genomic innovation.
Department Overview
HudsonAlpha Wiregrass is a new initiative bringing HudsonAlpha's research, economic development and educational mission areas to Alabama's Wiregrass region. This collaborative partnership with the City of Dothan will focus on agriculture and agricultural innovation.
Position Summary
The Agricultural Project Manager will be responsible for leading and expanding the impact of the WIREGRASS Peanut Project, related AgTech initiatives, and other projects. This will be accomplished as a public-facing agriculture and research liaison for HudsonAlpha Wiregrass-building strong relationships with farmers, associations, and stakeholders. This role bridges research, outreach, economic development, and innovation.

JOB SPECIFIC TASKS
The Project Manager Will
- Manage agricultural research and innovation projects, specifically peanut genomics and AgTech field trials, including WIREGRASS TRIALS.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, producer groups, and ag industry partners.
- Support the adoption of AgTech solutions by connecting growers with emerging tools and technologies.
- Translate research findings into practical insights and clear communications for farmers and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with universities, extension services, and industry groups to strengthen agricultural programming.
- Assist in securing grants and resources, and track project outcomes such as productivity, cost savings, and sustainability impacts.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required in agriculture, public relations, communications, or related field, Master's degree preferred
- Project management experience, preferably in agricultural outreach, education, or extension
- Experience working with large groups, communicating effectively, and organizing complex projects
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Strong ability to drive project independently, while collaborating with team and stakeholders
- Technical experience with social media, basic design tools, and Mac/Apple systems

Physical Demands
- Must be able to travel between sites within Alabama, the Wiregrass region, and nearby states (generally, 1 - 4 hour trips)
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and participate in outdoor activities (e.g., farm tours)
- Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Working in the field for prolonged periods
- Communicate in person and over the telephone.
- Perform work in the field
- Tolerate moderate noise level (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
- Continuous mental and visual attention.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in the English language.
- Analyze and solve problems.
- Learn and apply new skills and information.
- Read and interpret data, information, and documents.
