Starting Salary Range: $65,068.00 - $77,453.00

Under direct supervision perform routine or repetitive specialized clerical duties in maintaining financial records and performing accounting or bookkeeping tasks; perform routine or repetitive duties following clearly prescribed standard practices involving the application of readily understood rules and procedures.

Examples Of Work To Be Performed

  • Collect, prepare, and input payroll data from timekeeping system to UKG payroll system on a bi-weekly basis. Review information for completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare payroll and wage records and make computations to determine additions to or deductions from previously determined figures.
  • Work with various department supervisors for any missed time and update payroll records.
  • Maintain or assist in the maintenance of general ledger subsidiary records of financial transactions.
  • Review and classify financial data and verify mathematical computations.
  • Prepare standard financial reports from maintained records.
  • Maintain records of receipts and obligations; audit and prepare vouchers for payment.
  • Examine checks, vouchers and other documents for conformance with established laws and regulations.
  • Oversee federal and state reporting guidelines and deadlines for Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS), Federal and FICA taxes, W-2’s, 1099’s, etc.
  • Perform and participate in professional accounting activities in compliance with applicable standards and specifications including financial reports, general ledger reconciliation, budgeting, auditing, and record keeping.
  • Prepare asset, liability and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Prepare payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements.
  • Summarize and maintain current accurate financial status by collecting information and preparing financial reports; reconcile financial discrepancies by analyzing a variety of ledgers, reports, and accounting records; maintain accounting controls by maintaining policies and procedures.
  • Prepare the bank statements reconciliations for all City bank accounts. Research variances and recommend correcting entries, including close monitoring of returned checks receivables.
  • Prepare manual journal entries on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to book non-automated transactions.
  • Complete analyses and schedules to support journal entries for monthly financial close.
  • Maintain a variety of accounts and ledgers; prepare monthly financial reports and special reports relating to the progress of specific accounts and/or projects.
  • Ability to create internal and external schedules and supporting documents for external auditors by researching, analyzing, and preparing various schedules, closing entries, and financial statements.
  • Enter account information for financial transactions, research and analyze transactions and make recommendations to resolve problems relating to account balances, budget overruns, and/or allocation discrepancies.
  • Ability to contribute to team effort and to assist in other activities and special projects as needed or directed.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of accounting work experience.
  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to use a posting, adding, or calculating machine.
  • Knowledge in operation of PC.
  • Ability to understand and apply established rules and regulations to the maintenance of financial records.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports from financial records.

Desired Training And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related area.
  • Experience in public sector classification and compensation.

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
