Job Summary
As an Environmental Science Specialist, you will oversee all aspects of ambient air monitoring data collection to include setting up communication equipment and maintaining an air quality database. This position will also require performing scheduled quality checks on air quality instrumentation, completing multi-media sample exchanges and troubleshooting equipment issues as they arise.
This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (2 days per week in the office/hoteling).

Job Duties
- Oversee all communication's equipment configurations and data acquisition system for all ADEQ monitoring sites.
- Update the Air Monitoring Database to account for new sites, site updates, instrument changes, and communication protocol upgrades.
- Draft, setup and update Auto Data Validation Processor (ADVP) rules for Level 1 Data Review and alert messaging for trending data.
- Draft or assist in the review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) relating to data acquisition, communications equipment (modems, dataloggers, etc.) and database processes.
- Maintaining the Air Monitoring Database to include but limited to; data troubleshooting, corrections, recovery and importing data into the database.
- Keeping up to date and knowledgeable on database's upgrades, new software technologies, equipment, applications, and tools within the air quality monitoring sector.
- Knowledgeable in Auto-GC and Ozone precursor monitoring (PAMS) and able to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and generally assist with the operation of related equipment
- Ensure Data Governance alignment and coordination with Data Stewards, Data Owners, Acquisition Control Board on any updates and/or needs.
- Work in the field conducting hands-on instrument maintenance, service, verifications, calibration, and completion of all required service logs, field sheets and documentation in accordance with SOP's, QAPP's and the EPA QA Handbook.
- Coordinates air monitoring related projects under direction of a unit lead or manager.
Knowledge of
- The AirVision database with ability to build sites, create import templates, drafting ADVP rules, and diagnose any data polling issues or concerns
- Campbell Scientific dataloggers
- Data governance practices and current or new emerging software technologies
- Air monitoring techniques for criteria pollutants
- Quality assurance and controls as it pertains to Air Quality
- Other communication programming languages
- Gaseous and particulate instrumentation, Auto-GC, communication equipment, quality assurance and control, and data entry using relational databases
- Existing and new environmental monitoring techniques and equipment
- Methodologies and techniques for collecting environmental data including the design and function of environmental monitoring equipment and State and Federal environmental regulations.
- Use CRBasic programming language
- Setup, program, and troubleshoot communication's equipment
- Troubleshoot instrument issues using agency SOP's, SW's, and/or vendor specific operational manuals
Level 1
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a Science or Environmental related degree.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a Science or Environmental related degree.
- 2 years of experience in conducting environmental monitoring, data collection and maintaining an environmental related database.
