Description

To support this priority, Amazon is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior TOM Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for partnering with the network operations team to execute company WHS policies and ensure compliance to all applicable local, regional and federal regulations. By leveraging lean principles and kaizens, you will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk to ensure a safe and healthful working environment for Amazon’s Associates.

In this role, you must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the cross functional TOM operation teams, and influence change through providing comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis. To do so, you must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. You will also be required to instruct and train TOM operations leadership while assisting the TOM operational teams in incorporating our safety standards at their sites. Your experience working in safety programs and your relevant safety, environmental and ergonomic knowledge in an operations environment will be crucial.

You will be responsible for developing a team of TOM Safety Leads and TOM operations within your designated network. Your team’s success will depend on your ability to create and execute leadership development plans for your larger team. You must demonstrate your ability to clearly communicate organizational direction through your team and give frequent and appropriate feedback to TOM operation teams while ensuring they are executing to the core competencies of an Amazon WHS professional. As a senior leader in the TOM WHS organization, you will also be responsible for judging and assessing safety talent to select appropriate bench strength for current and future business needs.

Key job responsibilities

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Act as SME of regional/national regulations and company WHS policy.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance to all applicable Amazon WHS Policies.
  • Measure the regions and network’s performance against published requirements in WHS policies. For all deficiencies, identify a plan for the site to implement and fix all identified deficiencies.
  • Ensure WHS recordkeeping and data integrity and provides TOM Operations with accurate reporting and metrics to support business WHS initiatives.
  • Deliver on-time and quality projects to TOM Operations. Deliver quality projects on time to TOM Operations.
  • Analyze WHS metrics and review incident weekly and monthly incident trends to discover trends to justify the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the safety risk is highest.
  • Actively manage and develop your team through targeted career growth actions .
  • Audit the workplace organization and Associate behaviors to ensure that training, auditing and scoring methods are accurate and consistent.
  • Spend time at the fulfillment center trailer yards and seek input from WHS teams, Associates and TOM leaders on WHS program improvement opportunities. Ensure open communication on status of progress and resolution against these suggestions.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

  • 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, service operations, or relevant experience applicable to the role
  • 7+ years of increasing responsibilities in people and performance management
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Office within one of the designated region's sites. Must be willing to relocate if not currently within region
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends, as required to support direct reports and site needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred

  • Certified Safety Professional preferred
  • Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic organization
  • Interest in long-term career development through assignments in multiple business units across the nation
  • Prior experience in a management development training program
  • Track record of effectively managing a safety operation comprising both salaried and hourly staff
  • Excellent experience in developing others into higher levels of responsibility in an organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with Directors and VPs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $134,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
