Job Summary:

St. Mary’s Catholic Center is seeking a dependable, mission-driven Facilities Maintenance Technician to help steward our facilities in support of our vibrant campus ministry. Through hands-on maintenance and repair work, this role will be solving problems and serving the Church through building care and upkeep. This position plays a key part in creating a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Organization Overview

St. Mary’s Catholic Center at Texas A&M University has the mission to form apostles for the Church and the world. We are a ministry of the New Evangelization who believe in exercising a dynamic orthodoxy, faithful to the Church’s instruction, engaging and fervent, in a manner that reaches the hearts of the faithful and the unchurched. The Facilities Maintenance Technician is a member of the operations team at St. Mary’s Catholic Center.

Major Responsibilities And Duties

This role involves routine, hands-on maintenance work across parish facilities. The Facilities Maintenance Technician is expected to follow instructions, complete assigned tasks, and communicate clearly with staff and supervisors.

Specific Duties Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Carry out basic repairs such as painting, light carpentry, patching drywall, replacing light fixtures, clearing drains, etc.
  • Help with basic seasonal tasks such as changing air filters, cleaning coils, or clearing leaves and debris.
  • Occasional outdoor and landscape work, in addition to site improvements
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining our parking lots.
  • Working with our janitorial team and collaborating on projects such as floor care, etc.
  • Assist with external vendors and contractors on-site for specialized maintenance or repair work.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a safe and organized work environment.
  • Maintain records of inspections, repairs, and routine maintenance.
  • Other duties and maintenance tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A heart for service, with strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
  • Hands-on experience with tools and general building repair work (plumbing, painting, mechanical fixes, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of commercial building systems including HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and

electrical.

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to take direction.
  • Adaptable to changing needs and responsive to unexpected facility demands.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are practicing Catholics.
  • Any candidate must be able to support the mission of St. Mary’s Catholic Center and its role as a Catholic institution.

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma required with preference given to those with degrees or certifications in a related field such as construction, engineering, facility maintenance, etc.
  • Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of hands-on maintenance experience.
  • Ability to safely operate rental equipment such as lifts for repairs and maintenance preferred.
  • Experience working within Catholic institutions is a plus.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must maintain current certification in the Diocese of Austin’s Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) program throughout employment.

Compensation

  • This is a full-time, salaried position with compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications. A full benefits package is included.

JOB CONDITION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is performed in a church or office setting with daily and weekly deadlines. The candidate must have flexibility and availability to be present on some nights, weekends, and holidays. While performing the duties of this job, the Facilities Maintenance Technician is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit and perform repetitive motions of hands/wrists and must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and cold. The ability to regularly lift and move items up to fifty pounds and the ability to perform physical tasks related to facility maintenance is required.

Other

The Director of Facilities will evaluate the Facilities Maintenance Technician in writing at least once annually.
