Position Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer will maximize profits and the reputation of the company by assisting with coordination of all manufacturing activities, maintaining a high level of work quality, responsiveness and efficiency of all manufacturing processes. This role will require leadership qualities, technical knowledge of solid works, estimating, purchasing and project management.

Requirements

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for directing and maintaining an effective and efficient Drafting/Mechanical Design program.
  • Support and participate in a safe work environment and safety program for all employees.
  • Consistently work with the Manufacturing Manager and Shop Manager to ensure all production schedule needs are being met.
  • Assist with overall project management activities and keeping Job files current and up to date (customer approval drawings, shop drawings, etc.).
  • Lead efforts to provide customers with accurate and complete Job Books/Data Books (manage all MTRs, gather needed heat numbers, complete heat maps, weld maps, torque logs, etc.).
  • Work with Shop Manager to ensure all equipment calibrations and employee certifications are current (assist with scheduling repairs/calibrations as needed).
  • Assist with estimating potential projects, quote generation, and customer interaction to gather needed information.
  • Assist with purchasing activities for shop, office, and project needs.
  • Responsible for training welders in the fabrication of project-specific designs.
  • Train machine operators in part production, ensuring proficiency in meeting established shop tolerances.

Qualifications And Education Requirements

COMPETENCIES

  • Able to plan, organize and manage drafting, manufacturing, inventory, estimating and purchasing activities.
  • Expertise in SolidWorks and working knowledge of Microsoft programs, especially Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to support the Company as needed and ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to multi-task various aspects of daily business

Education, Experience, Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5-10 years Drafting experience (1-2 years within oil & gas industry).
  • 1-2 years Estimating and Purchasing experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of SolidWorks.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking/sitting
  • Manual dexterity and mobility
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
  • Visual and auditory acuity

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Shop and office, potentially a high stress environment with prolonged hours.
  • Driving, walking, sitting and some lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Computer work.
  • Significant time spent in a manufacturing environment.
  • 40 hours per week which may include some early mornings, late evenings, and weekends. Currently 4 days per week -10 hours per day schedule. Overtime as required.
