Job Description

Join our enrichment team and take the opportunity to work with youth through a social emotional learning lens. We are hiring staff to work Monday and Wednesday from 3-5:30 at four elementary schools in Brockton.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Enrichment Instructor is responsible for presenting a positive and competent image of the YMCA through quality programming designed to meet the needs of the community. Well prepared, relevant, safe and effective programming will be taught in a professional manner, resulting in friendly, convenient and courteous service. The Enrichment Instructor will be responsible for the creation and instruction of high quality programming for children, and will ensure a safe, healthy and constructive environment for all participants. The Enrichment Instructor will display the character traits of Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility.

Job Function

  • Program/Department Responsibilities
  • Compile program records including: attendance, questionnaires, evaluations, and accident/incident reports when necessary
  • Assist with special promotional activities (open house, demonstrations, health and wellness fairs, verbal announcements, field trip and parent/family nights)
  • Be prepared to teach new material at the start of a new session/schedule - Lead enrichment activities for classrooms each day according to the quality requirements of the Old Colony Y and the prescribed curriculum that is planned each week
  • Ensure that a safe and healthy environment exists
  • Arrive to teach class on time, to greet participants, answer questions and address concerns; Set up for and clean up after all enrichment activities
  • Dress appropriately based on the subject matter of instruction
  • Arrive well-prepared
  • Learn the names of participants who attend your classes
  • Share educational information with your class participants
  • Teach classes with energy and enthusiasm; Collaborate with Teacher and the Para to ensure enrichment activities incorporate social emotional learning and are delivered with a trauma-informed lens
  • Motivate class participants to the best of your ability
  • Note new participants and help them to feel comfortable
  • Communicate with supervisor as soon as possible if unable to teach and record it appropriately
  • Exceed member expectations by “going the extra mile”
  • Handle member complaints and concerns quickly and effectively
  • Behave as a role model for a fit and healthy person
  • Enforce program rules pertaining to age, footwear, lateness, etc.
  • Attend Staff meetings and trainings as scheduled by the Director of Youth Development
  • Know at all times how many youth are in your group; Ensure children are never left alone in the classroom and there is always a YMCA or BPS staff member in the room
  • Identify and meet the individual needs of students (inclusion, accommodations)
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to the constantly changing school schedule
  • Maintain positive energy with staff, youth and families throughout entire program
  • Address any concerns or conflicts with Director of Youth Development

  • Build relationship with school staff, parents and caregivers
  • Sit and communicate with family members at family nights, share positive stories about children with their families and interact in activities

  • EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • References that can attest to teaching experience and ability
  • Must be timely, well-organized and prepared in advance to teach classes
  • Must possess the ability to lift up to 45 pounds using proper technique
  • Must be able to think independently and develop curriculum
