This is a contingent position, and employment is dependent upon Element 84 receiving the contract award.

Element 84 is looking for a UI Designer/Front End Engineer to join our team of "Impatient Optimists" who are building software that helps answer critical questions. In this role, you’d be serving a single client who is a non-profit focused on upholding best practices for social, environmental, and ethical responsibility in global supply chains for their member companies. You’d help redesign their tools that help their member companies and their suppliers ensure safe working conditions and responsible business practices.

An ideal candidate for this role is excited by the challenge of converting detailed complicated workflows into thoughtful designs, takes great pride in their craftsmanship, and thinks systematically about creating a cohesive end-to-end experience. We’re seeking someone with past experience building large-scale products, using and customizing a design system, and managing the complexity of a data-rich tool with multiple permission levels that still needs to feel intuitive, simple, and modern.

What You'll Do

  • Create meaningful user experiences: You'll collaborate closely with a human-centered designer/ux researcher to support them as they conduct user research and create user flows. You’ll translate this into wireframes and prototypes, and together, validate solutions with real users.
  • Design complex interfaces: You'll design high fidelity interfaces in Figma. These will translate complex geospatial and scientific data into intuitive, high-fidelity interfaces that are both functional and visually appealing.
  • Collaborate across teams: You'll work closely with engineers, product managers, and fellow designers to ensure the seamless implementation of design solutions.
  • Advocate for the user: You'll work closely with the UX researcher, championing usability and accessibility, ensuring our products are easy to use for everyone.
  • Support strong design standards: Define, evolve, and maintain a design system for the client.
  • Write front end code: Contribute to the build of the system with front end code.
  • Be a thoughtful collaborator: Contribute to a culture of positivity, curiosity, and respect for all individuals; work to understand client needs empathetically and proactively identify solutions
  • Act as the lead on the project for Design and Front end: You aren’t just a contributor, you are the point person responsible the design and front end quality for the project and may oversee subcontractors or other teammates delivery of work

Qualifications

Here are the guidelines we're looking at to gauge experience and skillset:

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in design and front end roles
  • 3+ years of experience in leadership roles on teams building complex products
  • Experience with modern tooling
  • Experience applying accessibility standards
  • Semantic HTML, CSS, Javascript, and/or React expertise.
  • Strong grasp of visual design fundamentals.
  • Substantial understanding of modern UX principles and responsive, accessible web app design patterns.
  • Proficiency in modern design software, particularly Figma.
  • Ability to build and work with design systems and component libraries.
  • Portfolio that clearly showcases your abilities and experiences.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Comfort digesting complex logic and requirements
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing supply chain or regulatory software
  • Experience designing for internationalization

The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $150,000.

Actual compensation offered to candidate will be finalized at offer and may be above or below the posted range due to skill level, experience, industry-specific knowledge, education/certifications, or geographic location. Base salary represents just one component of the Element 84 total compensation package. Employees will also receive a number of benefits as listed below. Other compensation for this position may include bonus eligibility (dependent on employee performance and company profits).
