KT is seeking motivated individuals to join our team and advance their accounting careers. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in audit, tax, or accounting services, working closely with professionals and performing various tasks within the accounting field.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of accounting.
- Maintain and organize client files and records in compliance with industry and firm standards.
- Develop working relationships with clients and co-workers.
- Attend professional development and training sessions.
- Attend firm-sponsored events and team-building activities.
- Develop proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, tax and/or accounting software, and other applications relevant to job requirements.
- Review and organize financial documents and ensure accuracy in data entry
- Collaborate with experienced staff to address client inquiries, provide timely responses, and ensure exceptional client service.
- Provide routine client communication under the guidance of experienced staff.
- Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.
- Become familiar with and adhere to KT's policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by Person-in-Charge or member of the Partner group.
Additional responsibilities based on department:
- Maintain general ledger and all related accounts with proper documentation and records of all company transactions.
- Prepare bank reconciliation for all accounts; verify accuracy of bank statements and work with staff to resolve questions or problems; maintain integrity of cash balances and cash flow systems.
- Compile financial statements, handle accounts payable, and process quarterly payroll reports when applicable.
- Prepare sales and use tax reports for the state of South Dakota or multiple states.
- Preparation of payroll checks, payroll records, and reports.
- Prepare W2s and 1099s. (Winter/Spring only)
- Draft financial statements under the firm’s prescribed format.
- Prepare portions of compilation, review, and audit engagements, including documenting the execution of specific procedures performed.
- Participate in planning meetings with your audit team before going to a client’s place of business
- Perform year-end accounting procedures necessary for tax preparation, with training and assistance.
- Prepare individual income tax returns with training and assistance.

- Conduct tax research on current tax laws, regulations, and updates to support the team’s decision-making processes.
- Initiative and willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate information to solve problems.

- Willingness to put forth the effort needed to meet compliance and Firm deadlines, as well as meet client expectations.
- Ability to work in a professional office environment, using standard office equipment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- A valid State Driver's License and the ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to pass a background check and motor vehicle record check
Additional requirements based on department:
- A major in Accounting or a similar field such as Finance or Business
- Preference is given to students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- A major in Accounting

- Plans to pursue the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification
- Three or more years of higher education at the start of the internship
- A major in accounting or a similar field such as finance or business.
- Must have completed Intermediate Accounting 1
- Preference is given to students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Plans to pursue the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or EA (Enrolled Agent) certification.
- This is a temporary position working between 25 to 40 hours per week. Hours typically fall Monday through Friday during standard business hours. Internships run for six (6) to twelve (12) weeks.
- The timeframe options are Winter/Spring (December – April), Summer (May-September), Fall (September - December)
- Fall is not offered in the Tax Department*
- An intern housing reimbursement is available to students who upon application qualify.
- Upon successful completion of the internship period, interns may be extended offers for a return internship or full-time employment offer.
- Located in Rapid City, Spearfish, or Gillette office
- Pay: Accounting Services - $24 per hour, Tax and Audit - $26.50 per hour
