Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired offers a number of services.
In our COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM, volunteers work one-to-one with visually impaired adults in their community, assisting with reading or shopping.
In each of our 35 peer-led SUPPORT GROUPS, individuals gather to share challenges and resources.
Elders with low vision can work with one of our VISION REHABILITATION SPECIALISTS to learn strategies for living with limited or no vision. Special focus on reading and writing, magnification, lighting, diabetes management, home safety and daily activities.
MABVI's greatest need currently is for volunteers in the Boston region, and willingness to travel anywhere in the City of Boston. MABVI is appreciative of volunteer's willingness to travel a minimum of 10-15 miles.

A young blind woman in Lynn is seeking a volunteer to assist her once a week with grocery shopping and walking as a sighted guide. This is a special opportunity for a volunteer who is very conscientious and caring, and for someone who wants to make a positive impact on the life of a neighbor. The volunteer should be kind, patient, and willing to drive the volunteer in their car to the store. The volunteer should be available after 4pm on weekdays or on the weekends.

- Medical Transportation
- Going grocery shopping
- Running errands in the community
- Recreational activities such as being a running/walking sighted guide
- Other Clerical tasks
The Volunteer Onboarding Process Includes
- Complete a MABVI Volunteer application
- Completing the online, modular MABVI Volunteer Training
- Schedule a time to chat via Zoom with a member of the MABVI Volunteer Team/Submit a CORI
- Meet the MABVI Volunteer Team via Zoom or phone call
- MABVI matches you with a MABVI participant!
