About The Role
We’re looking for a Business Development Account Manager to manage and strengthen sponsor and CRO relationships across a portfolio of clinical trials. Acting as the primary liaison between customer accounts and internal teams, the Account Manager ensures that expectations are met, performance is transparent, and internal execution is aligned with customer goals. While study outcomes are driven by operational teams, the Account Manager owns the health of the sponsor and CRO relationships, ensuring responsiveness, trust, alignment, and satisfaction while contributing to strategic growth through new opportunity identification, account retention, proactive feedback, and analysis to maximize account value.

About The Role
We’re looking for a Business Development Account Manager to manage and strengthen sponsor and CRO relationships across a portfolio of clinical trials. Acting as the primary liaison between customer accounts and internal teams, the Account Manager ensures that expectations are met, performance is transparent, and internal execution is aligned with customer goals. While study outcomes are driven by operational teams, the Account Manager owns the health of the sponsor and CRO relationships, ensuring responsiveness, trust, alignment, and satisfaction while contributing to strategic growth through new opportunity identification, account retention, proactive feedback, and analysis to maximize account value.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and grow a large, multi-account portfolio of Sponsors and CROs exceeding $20M in revenue.
- Serve as the primary relationship owner from award through study closeout, ensuring consistent sponsor engagement and satisfaction.
- Own and execute the sponsor communication strategy across feasibility, study launch, execution, performance reporting, and closeout.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of sponsor goals, pipeline priorities, and account history to ensure alignment and continuity.
- Partner with the Business Development Manager to support new account transitions and long-term relationship development.
- Build trust through transparency, responsiveness, and consistent delivery on sponsor expectations.
- Align feasibility, operations, regulatory, and finance teams with sponsor/CRO objectives and timelines.
- Monitor startup and execution milestones to identify delays or signs of underperformance and coordinate proactive internal responses.
- Facilitate clear, timely communications and regular partnership meetings to ensure visibility and accountability.
- Lead internal feedback sessions and capture satisfaction scores and qualitative feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
- Translate sponsor feedback into actionable process improvements that enhance future study delivery.
- Map sponsor organizations to identify key influencers and decision-makers and uncover strategic growth opportunities.
- Stay informed of sponsor pipelines and therapeutic priorities to proactively position site capabilities.
- Support RFI/RFP development by coordinating with cross-functional teams and contribute to pipeline progression from feasibility to award.
- Conduct end-of-study debriefs and recommend opportunities for continued engagement, renewals, and expanded partnerships.
- Have a high school diploma or GED (required) and at least 3 years of experience in client services, account management, or project management within clinical research, healthcare, or life sciences.
- Are confident using CRM systems and tools like Salesforce, Devana, or CTMS to manage relationships and drive results.
- Bonus points if you hold a degree in Business, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Marketing, or a related field.
- Even better if you bring 5–7+ years of experience in business development or account management in clinical research, biotech, or pharma.
- You've managed large portfolios ($20M+ annual revenue), built growth strategies in complex, multi-site environments, and have a strong network of sponsor, CRO, or pharma contacts.
- You’re comfortable leading cross-functional initiatives and enjoy representing your team at strategic conferences or industry events.
- Client-Facing Expertise & Relationship Management
- Proven success cultivating and expanding sponsor and CRO relationships, including executive-level stakeholders.
- Ability to develop and execute account strategies that drive sustainable revenue growth.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and empathetically to resolve concerns and foster long-term client trust.
- Strong interpersonal and consultative skills with a customer-centric approach.
- Strategic & Analytical Thinking
- Skilled in conducting market research, analyzing operational and financial impact, and identifying business development opportunities.
- Experienced in forecasting, revenue modeling, and ROI justification.
- Ability to maintain strategic oversight while managing detailed tasks, competing priorities, and fast-moving timelines.

- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills across proposals, executive presentations, and operational updates.
- Confident facilitator of internal and external meetings, with a talent for aligning stakeholders and managing expectations.
- Project & Pipeline Management
- Strong organizational skills with a process-driven mindset; capable of managing multiple accounts, contacts, and opportunities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated success in project ownership from initiation through delivery, ensuring timely and high-quality outcomes.
- Proficient in CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

- Effective collaborator across functions including feasibility, operations, finance, and regulatory teams.
- Adept at resolving internal misalignments or operational conflicts diplomatically while advocating for sponsor expectations.

- Industry Knowledge
- Familiarity with clinical trial site operations, study feasibility, and industry best practices.
- Working knowledge of ICH GCP, FDA, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
- Able to confidently communicate regulatory, operational, and study-specific considerations to sponsor and CRO partners.
