Summary
This position is located at the Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SERPL) of USDA's U.S. National Poultry Research Center (USNPRC) based in Athens, GA. USNPRC is a USDA critical facility for Public Health and Veterinary Medical research including highly pathogenic avian influenza (bird flu), food safety, antibiotic resistance, and zoonotic disease of poultry.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:
Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience providing veterinary care for poultry inside an ABSL-3 biocontainment environment; providing medical care to laboratory animals including conducting physical examinations of animals and routine surgical and post-mortem procedures; implementing and reporting on animal welfare regulations and guidelines related to animal research studies; and providing advice and consultative services on animal research and treatment methods. OR To qualify at the GS-12 grade level on the basis of education only, applicants must successfully complete a Master's in relevant graduate study or a dual DVM/graduate degree as described below at an accredited college or school, in addition to completing the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or an equivalent degree. Education Substitution: Master's degree in an area of specialization, including but not limited to, animal science, avian medicine, food safety, infectious diseases, veterinary clinical sciences, pathobiology, biomedical sciences, veterinary anatomy, veterinary preventive medicine, comparative biological sciences, epidemiology, veterinary parasitology, molecular veterinary biosciences, public health, microbiology, pathology, immunology, laboratory animal medicine, toxicology, wildlife, zoological animal medicine, or sciences related to the work of a veterinary medical officer position. OR Residency/Post-Graduate Training Programs: Successful completion of two years of an internship, residency program, or fellowship training program in a discipline related to the position.
