Job Summary
The Associate Athletic Director for Compliance will strategically plan, implement, manage, and enforce all aspects of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), and University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) compliance for all UIS intercollegiate sport programs to provide a fair, inclusive, and fulfilling environment for student-athletes.
Duties & Responsibilities
Bachelor’s Degree. Three (3) years of NCAA compliance experience is required. Experience with NCAA Applications, including the Academic Portal, Compliance Assistant 2.0, NCAA Transfer Portal, Eligibility Center, and LSDBi is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's or Law Degree preferred. Four (4) years of compliance experience at the NCAA Division II level is preferred. Experience with BANNER and Compliance + Recruiting (ARMS) / Teamworks preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Candidate must possess ability to multi-task, be self-motivated and highly organized with attention to detail, have excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills, and have a strong working knowledge and commitment to NCAA rules.
The incumbent shall have a commitment to ethical practices and represent the university at the highest levels of integrity and fairness in all situations.
Travel Requirements
5% Some travel expected along with evening and weekend working hours.

The Associate Athletic Director for Compliance will strategically plan, implement, manage, and enforce all aspects of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), and University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) compliance for all UIS intercollegiate sport programs to provide a fair, inclusive, and fulfilling environment for student-athletes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and uphold policies and procedures to ensure institutional control for all intercollegiate sports in conformity with NCAA Division II constitution and bylaws and GLVC policies. Enforce and regularly review existing compliance processes and procedures to ensure control and function. Lead investigations, conduct inquiries, and report NCAA, GLVC, and/or UIS violations. Research and provide written updates, interpretations, and enforcement of current, new, and proposed NCAA and GLVC rules and regulations. Oversee and manage all NCAA and/or GLVC waiver requests, appeals, and reports, including NCAA, GLVC, and institutional reviews and/or audits.
- Monitor NCAA and GLVC playing and practice season legislation and limitations, including daily and weekly practice hours, number of days with allowable practice, number and timing of competitions, and competition of student-athletes with outside teams. Management of NCAA student-athlete statements, drug testing consent forms, and other required NCAA/GLVC/UIS documents and forms prior to participation. Management of all required annual compliance tests for UIS staff. Manage all required NCAA documentation including eligibility reports, financial aid summaries, scholarships, Letters of Intent, recruiting documentation, and practice documentation.
- Develop, implement, and uphold comprehensive rules education and training programs teaching student-athletes, coaches, staff, campus community, alumni, and boosters about NCAA, GLVC, and UIS rules and regulations. Develop educational materials and presentations including student-athlete handbook, staff compliance policy and procedure manual, NCAA Booster manual, and new employee manual. Support the Deputy Director of Athletics working in conjunction with the UIS Access and Equity Office and Title IX Coordinator in monitoring implementation of gender-equity policies and programming and Title IX compliance.
- Coordinate administration of financial aid to student-athletes. Audit all student-athlete financial aid, including all non-athletics aid to determine NCAA permissibility. Authorize athletic scholarship payments to Financial Aid and examine student-athlete accounts to adjust for fluctuating charges. Monitor & advise coaches regarding scholarships to stay within NCAA team scholarship limitations. Assist student-athletes with Financial Aid concerns. Provide ongoing rules education to Financial Aid, and train/teach new Financial Aid staff on NCAA rules and regulations.
- Work directly with NCAA eligibility center to evaluate student-athlete’s amateur history, evaluate student-athlete’s high school transcript history, and ensure all UIS student-athletes meet NCAA & GLVC rules. Coordinate with registrar’s office to evaluate student-athlete’s collegiate history and ensure all UIS student-athletes meet NCAA rules. Communicate with high schools to facilitate the initial eligibility process with the NCAA. Coordinate communication with appropriate personnel on potential issues of incoming student-athletes.
- Proactively engage with the Deputy Director of Athletics and Assistant Athletic Director for Student Excellence to ensure student-athletes progress toward degree and overall wellness.
- Serve as the compliance institutional representative to the NCAA and GLVC as required, including NCAA DII Regional Rules. Assist in coordinating the UIS Compliance and Certification Committees. Provide ongoing rules education to the UIS Compliance and Certification Committees, and train/teach new staff on NCAA rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics that may include fundraising, game management, community-relations initiatives, and other special events and activities.
