Infection Control / Wound Care Nurse / Staff Educator (Full-Time)

Position Summary:

The Infection Control / Wound Care Nurse / Staff Educator is a multifaceted clinical leadership position responsible for the development and implementation of infection prevention strategies, wound management protocols, and clinical education programs for nursing staff. This role ensures regulatory compliance, promotes evidence-based practices, and fosters a culture of safety and continuous learning in our skilled nursing and rehab facility.

Key Responsibilities:

Infection Control:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP).
  • Conduct surveillance, data collection, and trend analysis of infection rates and report findings to appropriate committees.
  • Ensure compliance with CDC, CMS, OSHA, and state-specific guidelines for infection prevention.
  • Lead outbreak investigations and implement control measures as needed.
  • Maintain logs and reports of infections and antibiotic usage.
  • Provide infection prevention education to staff, residents, and families.


Wound Care:

  • Assess, document, and manage residents with pressure injuries, surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers, and other complex wounds.
  • Develop individualized wound care treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and providers.
  • Monitor wound progress and adjust treatment as clinically indicated.
  • Educate nursing staff on proper wound care techniques, documentation, and prevention strategies.
  • Ensure proper use of wound care products and equipment.
  • Participate in weekly skin rounds.


Staff Education & Development:

  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for nursing and ancillary staff, including orientation, annual competencies, and in-services.
  • Conduct hands-on training and skills validation for clinical procedures and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of training, competencies, and educational activities.
  • Keep staff informed of changes in policies, procedures, regulations, and clinical standards.
  • Support performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.


Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in CT
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in long-term care or rehab nursing; prior experience in infection control, wound care, or education preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • Wound Care Certification (WCC, CWCN, or equivalent) – preferred or willing to obtain
    • Infection Control Certification (CIC, IP-BC) – preferred or willing to obtain
    • CPR/BLS – required
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance (CMS, CDC, OSHA)
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to educate and inspire staff with a hands-on, collaborative approach

Schedule:

Full-Time, Monday–Friday (day shift), with occasional evenings or weekends for training needs or infection control response
